Goodyear Duratrac or bfgoodrich A/T?

I have a 2001 F250 and am getting new tires I have already decided on the 315/75/16 size and have narrowed it down to these two choices. The problem I have with the bfg's is that they are load range D and have a max p.s.i of 50. The Goodyears are load range E with a higher max p.s.i, but the problem with them is I am afraid that the extra tread blocks on the sidewall will rub more on my leaf springs.
Snow and sand are the two biggest off road environments I am in, and most of my driving is done on the street. I don't tow alot and when I do it is a 7000-8000 pound trailer.

I have a v10 with x rated springs and wheels with a -6 offset so I am trying to do this with no lift or as little lift as needed. IF the bfg's where a load range E I would probably pick those but since there not I am torn. Does any one have any opinions or experiences with these tires (preferable in the same tire size) that they would like to share?

The BFGs (KOs in 315/75R16) are a 121 load index, meaning if you air them up all the way they're still rated for 3195# just like stock tires. It's just the ply rating that is less, which is indicative of the tire compared to the old rating system when bias ply tires actually had 8 plies for D and 10 plies for E. A comparable radial E-ply rated tire with the same load index would probably handle it's max load better than a D-ply rated tire, but you will not be overloading the BFGs if you stay within you GAWRs and GVWR. Don't get hung up on D vs E, look at the load index number, that's the weight it can take. A tire with an E-ply rating will probably last longer than a D if both spend their entire service life at their maximum pressure and load, but you're looking at heavily siped AT tires with softer rubber compounds than what would be desired in a tire that would be maxed out all the time, so it's probably a wash on tread life because of useage factors other than weight.

Thanks for the reply,
I agree the 121 Load index should be enough I just wanted to be able to fill them up to 65 p.s.i like an E tire in hopes of slightly better MPG. But like you said with tire wear the more I think about it I am guessing that will be a wash once I go up to a bigger tire size anyways.

I run e rated Duratracs also. Absolutely love the tires, great in the winter for snow plowing. Haven't got as many miles so far out of them as I used to with my BFGs, but would still buy the goodyears again. Plus they are great looking too.

A buddy if mine has them on his trail rig. Went rock crawling with them and they did well.

I used to run the bfg's on my 2002 250. Three years ago I switched to the Duratracs. I will never go back to the bfg's. Tire size on my truck is 265/75/16. Tire wear is good, road noise is not bad, and traction is far superior. Make sure you keep an eye on your pressure, and rotate often and they will wear well. Hope this helps. Joe

I have had several set of duratrac's on various Jeeps I own. I have the original tires on my f-350 still and I have not changed them for 2 reasons - the truck is new and I hate to waste money - and I am making several trips back and forth between NJ and Florida - towing heavy - near the truck & trailer max.

As soon as I am done the trips back and forth I will be getting duratrac's for the truck - I have been very very pleased with them on my Jeeps which have gone off roading all over the USA in all kinds of conditions and have never ever let me down.

Let us know what you do and post up some pictures

You will not find a better AT tire for the snow then the Duratracs. I have no experience with any tire in the sand. Second best would be the BFG's, but not close IMO.

Finally ended up getting duratrac's! So far I am very happy with them and cant wait to try them in the snow. I have no lift but have pulled back the splash guards about 1 inch and have no rub. I also seem to not have any rub on the left spring as well even at full lock! I am pretty sure I will have some rubbing off road tho and will have to see if I can make some more room or else i will have to get a leveling kit.

Here is a pic, truck is a 2001 f250 V10 with x rated springs I believe.

I saw in a magazine yesterday that BFG is coming out with the T/A KO2 in November.

All-Terrain T/A KO2 | BFGoodrich Tires

Supposed to be as good as the original T/A KO, but with stronger sidewalls and better snow/ice capability.

Those new KO2's look pretty cool. My dad will be looking for new tires for his truck in a year I will have to let him know about those.
