I have a friend that will give me a 9" thats in great shape. I was wondering if I could use it as a front axle in my 1960 4x4? I also am looking into installing a Gear Vendors overdrive unit to help with the highway driving.

How you going to STEER your truck? The gear housing is located basically in the center (would put it directly beneath the oil pan). It would take a lot of machining and fabrication to make a 9" rear axle housing fit for a front axle. Then you would need to reverse the gearing to go forward because the drive shafts both turn the same rotation.

Why bother, when Danas are available and strong, too.
