I heard about this on the midlantic site and posted, but I wanted to offer my condolences to the 'fornians who knew him far better.
That I know any of you at all is because Steve and George tag teamed me to join FTE way back when I was simply posting hither and yon on the site. This Saturday I had just asked about him because my perception of the 'old gang' have been absent of late.
That I ever met him is because he didn't let the price of fuel and the distance between ponds get to him like it has so many much more local.
Indeed that any of us know each other is not so much a testament to this internet thingy but rather a shared passion for a group of machines - something that predates this internet thingy and illustrates how uniquely American, Americans are. This stuff is ground into our DNA. I think he held up his end of the deal rather well, as many of you are attesting. Long distance, and internet friendships struck because of a truck.
It isn't the first loss, and wont be the last, but should serve as a wakeup to stay active in the endeavors that matter to you and keep in touch with those who matter to you. Its much harder to say goodbye to someone who is no longer here.
Again, my condolences to his family and friends on the left side...

Pretty unbelievable.
Pops called me this morning with the bad news. Gail, our deepest sympathies.
I didn't spend enough time with Steve except at local chapter functions, but a man of few words. However, when he spoke, all listened...knowing there was always something to be learned from Steve.
My first call ever on FTE was to Steve on a wiring issue. Always willing to help, always picked up his phone, always had the right answer.
Remember having lunch with Steve and Gail and a few of us after the USS Iowa GTG. They finished the walk early and just waited for the rest of us stranglers, no pressure for us to hurry.
I was always amazed at how much he knew about other members, just last week asking another about whether he was still in HR. That kind of stuff doesn't happen by accident. He knew these things because he cared to know about them. A lesson we could all learn from.
We will miss you Big Guy.
