What's it take to fill your tank?

I am somewhat new to the world of the Excursion and for the first time drove it until the low fuel light came on. I filled it and it took 36 gallons. I was surprised since it is a 44 gallon tank. I don't expect Ford built in an 8 gallon reserve but maybe they did. Is that what it takes to fill your tank too?

8 gallons isn't much at 10mpg...

Never let me Excursion get so low where the light comes on, but on my CV, the light comes on and it usually takes about 16 gallons and that is an 18 gallon tank.

Maybe the Ex has a bigger reserve due to the poor mileage?

Usually 32 to 35 gallons. But I don't let the light come on.

This has been an issue with my 2002 V10 Ex, when the light comes on and the needle is pegged on E and it says 0 miles to empty, i can only stuff 35 gallons in it!

My old 2004 and 2000 V10 Ex's the gauge did not go to E and the light did not come on until i'd used about 39-40 gallons, more then once i put 42 gallons in my old trucks.

But i can't stand pushing it with the light on even though i know i can go another 80 miles or so without issue at my constant 8 MPG.

last fill up was $140 btw

Usually about 38 gallons once the light is on and $150 big ones. But I average about 15-16 MPG if I'm not pulling anything. Little less pulling my car hauler.

Usually about 25 gallons for me. Don't want it to get to low, hits my wallet to hard. But I am getting 21mpg with my old 6.0.

I'm usually around 35-38 gallons when the light comes on.

Just a side note, the lower you consistently run the tank, the hotter the fuel pump runs, as it is cooled by the fuel. And you see the giant steel box around the tank, not the most fun thing to get down...

^Probably right about the cooling but I doubt if there is much difference in fuel temp when full or low (if any). Mine is usually $160 and I carry some gas with me at all times. That's one reason they started putting them in the tank, another was to help equalize the pressure, another to push instead of pull, and I imagine to save some space under the hood.

Mine shows a tick below quarter tank when I fill up. At that point I get about 36G. It will not set off the light.

A credit card, lots of love, and heartache after 38 gallons.

There's no reserve, it's just a matter of how low you suck the fuel.

I've drained mine to fumes many times and stuffed over 46 gallons into it, filling it all the way up the neck to the opening.

Not fuel temp, but the pump itself. The heat can kill a pump, eat the bushings etc. The two main failures we would see were contamination (dirty system/tank/filter) and running low or dry. One of my specialty lines when I sold auto parts for over 20 years was fuel system components, that, rotating electrical and heating/cooling were our big three.

I have always understood that when the light come on you have 40 miles left. Do my truck might be say 8 gallon reserve and the honda minivan might be like 1.5 to 2 gallons.
