351 Cleveland help

I have just rebuilt a 71 351 Cleveland and need some help, I have no oil pressure on starting, I let the engine run for about 30 sec. And still no pressure, I primed the oil pump and have oil coming up from the rear oil pressure sensor area when I spun the oil pump with a drill prior to starting, but still no pressure, did I miss something, the galley plugs were removed and replaced with new plugs after having the block checked and cleaned..

Sounds like you missed installing a galley plug or one popped out. Flow and pressure are two different things. You can have flow without pressure, but not the opposite. Try installing the pressure line at the front port (above the fuel pump) and see it it's got pressure there. Might be time regardless to pull the timing cover and intake to verify that the galley plugs are still in place.

How long does it take for oil to come up to pressure on a new rebuild after priming the oil galleys, I will check the pressure at the front oil plug, Thank You for all of your help.

It takes awhile for it to reach the rear, bout as long as it does to get up to the rockers through the pushrods. That rear port is the "end of the line" for the oil passage system. If you're going to run it hard, it's not a bad idea to run an external line from the front port to the rear to insure equalized pressure to the rear main bearing.

Just about the only engine we didn't user plastiguage on was my escort when I was a kid. I got a 10 under mains and a bad crank. We even went to 20 under mains and still had no pressure. Had to swap the crank, rod and main bearings, warranty of course.

Did you check yours while you assembled it?

Yea, crossed up cooler lines will get you a zero reading everytime. Done that once with my V8 Ranger. "Out" goes to the "IN" port.
