They did have some trailers that were interstate rated for 55, but most of them that I rented back in the day were placarded for 45 like these:

I have to say that every trailer I have rented from them are Load Range E tires and rated to at least 90mph. I just adjust my side mirror so I so not see the stupid sticker.

They do that to cover their asses from liability, although I am not sure if it would hold up in a court in the event of a law suit.

Probably would NOT hold up in court. Did you ever look at trailers yet. My mom and stepfather recently bought a Wells Cargo tandem axle enclosed and the build quality is somewhat disappointing.

No, we haven't looked. We got back from that trip and headed out for 3200 mile trip in fiver. Since then the wife has had be knee deep in bathroom remodels. We have to be ready for holiday visitors is the claim.

So you aren't supposed to load the trailer up and do 80?

Well imagine owning a company where you rent vehicles and trailers to people who have never driven a truck or towed anything. Of course you would cover your butt with all kinds of restrictions. I bet Uhaul has been sued many times by these idiots.

Yup - you can ignore the sticker all you want - but - when you rented it, yousigned the rental agreement which stated (paraphrased) that you would observe all speed limits including the maximum speed placarded on the vehicle/trailer...

Rental contracts are a joke for most types of vehciles. I stopped reading them when years ago I was told that the pickup truck I rented was "prohibited from driving on any road covered with a loose surface". Since my entire intention was to drive it on gravel and dirt roads, I just put that out of my mind, and went about my business.

I got tired of dealing with U-Haul and their car trailers so I bought a 16' open trailer, it was a great investment because I have hauled everything from cars to lumber to chicken coops with it.

Funniest thing that I have ever seen from Uhaul was when my parents were moving. My dad wen in with his 1996 Chevy 1500 with a ball hitch in the bumper. He rented a flatbed car hauler to move a 83-91 Mercury Grand Marquis, which it haul just fine incidentally. They handed the trailer no problem. He went back a week later to rent the same trailer to haul a 1981 Mustang, they told the Mustang and trailer combo was too heavy for his truck. Never mind the Marquis has about twice the curb weight of the Mustang....
