I am looking to swap out my tailgate for a newer one with the factory rearview camera, have found a setup that would replace the ford emblem with a camera for a decent price but need to have the logo in the middle of the tailgate. What is the earliest year that I could swap out with ( I have an '06 SD)? Or I could go with the handle mounted camera as an option.

Have you checked these out? Was going this route on my F150 but then bought an F250 that already had the tailgate camera.

That was the system I was looking at, but my current tailgate has the emblem off to the side. Hence the reason for the newer tailgate.

 

I think 08 was the first year of the center emblem.

 

Ok I was looking at newer tailgates and was amazed at how much they want for them. I mean really $500 for a blank one with nothing on it? and someone said something about a special bracket that was needed for the older ( 99 - 07 ) trucks for the newer gates to work, I went and compared a newer gate (09) to mine and did not see anything different or added to the newer one that was not on mine.

 

Dealer informed me that a newer 250 tail gate with camera and pull out step costs $2500CND.

 

$5000.00 US dollars for a 14 Platinum tailgate, don't ask how I know

 

Look on craigslist for a previously stolen one (or maybe yours)

or utility bed installers that may have one you can buy ...

I bought this and it works great. I hooked it up to my Alpine stereo system and comes on automatically when I shift into reverse.
