Hi Everyone,

Relatively new member here. I need to replace the heater fan motor in my '61 unibody. I am kind of stuck. Has anyone done this? Is anyone willing to share the do this, don't do that?

Any help will be greatly appreciated.

Are you sure the motor is bad?

To remove it you need to do the following.

1. Remove the battery from the firewall mount.
2. Remove the heater hoses for the stubs in to the engine compartment.
3. Remove the pull cable from the defrost floor door under the dash.
4. Remove the wiring from the switch to the motor and step down resistor.
5. Remove the center support bolt in the middle of the firewall.
6. Remove the three nuts on studs in the area of the battery box.
7. Gently pull back on the unit and drop down a bit.
8. Remove the upper hoses for defrost.
9. remove from truck.

The motor is on the back side.

Reverse for assembly. You can only use a later motor of the same frame size by mounting in on the stock plate.

I was afraid this was the case. I was really hoping to avoid taking the lines off the heater core.

I Checked voltage at the lines with the switch in the on position and got 9.6 volts, so I made jumpers and ran the fan motor directly to the battery and got nothing. I can only assume the motor is dead.

I am all ears to any more info.
