1955 Ford F800 Big Job Power Steering
Hello,
I 'am new member and had accidently put this thread in the wrong category, Sorry. What I need to know is if a power steering set up out of a 1959 Ford F800 series truck with a 332 Y-Block will bolt up to a 1955 Ford F800 Big Job series with a 317 Y-Block? Any help would be much appreciated. Thank you...

I guess I'm ya man. The Master glide power sterring didnt change too much
The pump and mounts same 332 or any big Y block. After thats plumbed
up you gotta center the steering wheel (dead center) then with front
wheels dead on center then adjust the drag link (control). Next there will
be a little more slack on the steering wheel Normal= that the valve spool
springs. The cylinder is clamped to the axle and drag link, which has to be
centered- thats easy just turn left and right and get the center point of
where to tighten the cyl clamps. All my F 8's and 900's got power
steering. Advantage - it dampens bump steers... We got them I think
"Tompson pumps"?? with the cooling coils around the pumps with the dip stick.
My kid dragged in a 54 F900 and I put a system from a cab over , no problem
a little maching work done.....
I find with these, when cold (snowpowing which these do) the steering is
a little manual, once up to temp all I need is my baby finger

Thank you for your reply. My classic License Plate say's "BIG JOB" My truck is a fire truck with 14,000 miles, Typical For A Fire Truck! I know where I can get a power steering unit for a good price, It seems like a good idea. I also have a 1960 Ford Country Squire with 19,000 actual miles, It also has Master Guide power steering.
Thanks again for your help, Tom

Howdy Sam and Tom!
Sorry to tag on but have any of you ever considered using a more modern power steering box in lieu of the "assist" /draglink control valve type steering?
I want to do the same thing and install PS on my 55 F-600.
I have a newer (Bendix) power assist valve (that needs to be rebuilt) and cyl with mounting hardware but I cannot find a pitman arm that will interface with my current steering box. [It also appears that I could use a newer 70's vintage F-250 4x4 control valve]
Now, I can cut my current pitman arm and GTAW weld the end that will match the tapered balljoint I have, OR it appears that I can get a custom pitman arm made by Rare Parts or other place.
But I would REALLY like to just find a more modern steering box and use it. (of course, I would probably have to put it in front of the axle and still make a custom pitman arm etc
What say you?
Rick

1970s 4x4 setup I would say no cause I've been there. The spool valve
is just too light duty and causes (nibbling) nibbling best I can discribe is
little hydraulic jerking like ta da ta da.. Next soultion perhaps for F600s
would be integral power steering boxes 70 & 80s. For F 7-8 & 900s
maybe a box from a L series but lot of work. Power assist is easier & works
fine. for me anyways...sam

in the same location as your 1955 so thats what I would hunt for. First
guess would be U-Haul trucks far as I know they all had P/S
