Still a little fuzzy on disc brake swap
I am now the proud owner of a 67 F100 4x4. I'm getting into planning for my build and looking at a disc brake swap. I still can't quite figure out the details, there is so much info on here I might be on overload status.
Ford_Six states:
For 4x4 trucks, there are a few different ways to go. For F-100 trucks, you can use GM D44 outers, rotors, and calipers.
I guess the problem is I don't know enough about the actual axle. What makes a Dana 44? Are they all the same out to the knuckles or how does that work? When he refers to "outers", what is that? I have tried to find a diagram online that explains the parts of a D44, but no luck.
Once I figure out what outers constist of, do I just need to find any vehicle that uses a d44 and has disc brakes to rob parts from?
I appreciate the patience. I usually try to avoid forums because of attitudes, but this one seems to be different.

You need some education. Here is an article referenced by Wiki on the Dana 44. You could use all Ford parts for a brake swap or just swap in a complete Dent 76-79 axle. Dana 44 Solid Front Axle: Part 1 Reverse Spiral Housing

Yea you need to do a lot of reading before you jump in over your head and get parts that won't work. Dana makes front & rear-ends for most vehicles.
Jeep, chevy scouts fords and so on.. Some of the small parts will interchange. Some have the driveline on the left & some on the right.
Some guy go with aftermarket disc brake kit setups.
Read & read read some more this is home work.. Go on other sites and learn what you can.
