Tune with exhaust??

Tune with exhaust??
New here with the diesel and have a question about exhaust and tuning. I plan on getting a full turbo back exhaust for the truck in the next couple weeks. Coming from experience with my Subaru WRX anytime a turbo back exhaust is used a tune is pretty much a must. What about for the Powerstoke? I've done some looking and haven't been able to find anything on this. I understand I wont get the full benefits(power) of the improved exhuast till it is tuned. Can I install the exhaust and not worry about the tune till later or should they be done at the same time?

Nope the wonders of diesel engines is the electronic changes are not entirely needed for basic bolt ons. There is more power to be had if you do but the truck will run just fine without it. Myself, I am running a TS chip with only a 6637 intake system (stock turbo, injectors, exhaust, downpipe, etc), the injectors are the biggest limiting factor (even with aftermarket intake, exhaust, downpipe and chip you will only see about 60hp for your efforts). If your wanting more you will want to upgrade the injectors and then the chip is certainly a must.

I just installed a Diamond Eye SS turbo back, 3" downpipe cat delete 4" exhaust and the 6637 mod. Just getting back from a 3500 mile round trip and the truck performed far better than it ever has in the 5 years I've owned it. The mileage gains were enough to pay for the exhaust in one trip.

The only other thing I done was add Prolong engine treatment and their transmission stuff before the trip. The truck has never run so cool or got any where near the fuel mileage and I drove it far harder than any other time since I've owned it.
I've run it at 85mph on the highway for long periods of time and it never flinched. I used to notice the temp climb a little when I run at 75 mph for long periods. I do the same trip ever year and stop for fuel at the same places. I noticed I was using far less fuel every fill up.
My most significant gain was about 8 mpg more going from Limon , CO down state highway 24 at 65 mph to Colorado Springs, then down to state highway 50 at 55-65 mph,(25 miles of it over drive turned off going over the huge mountain) and over to Montrose,Co then to hwy 550 at 55 mph and into Ouray,Co all on the front tank. 320 miles on 15 gallons of fuel. That's over 21 mpg and my best previous was 13mpg.
The exhaust can be a bear but I did mine solo. Would of went so much easier with another set of hands. I have my install on here somewhere.

I'll have the intake stuff up soon I'm waiting on the new parts to be cut out and polished. I made my own set up using the 6637 filter, actually it is the Fleet Guard version. Proto type went in very nicely and did very well on the trip.
I ordered all new battery cables and was waiting on their install and removing the battery trays and repainting them, along with the new air intake before taking anymore pics. If I can get the parts cut on the laser tomorrow and burnished I'll dive into it this weekend. But most likely will be the following weekend.
Gotta show this old truck some love if I'm going to keep it. The previous owners sure didn't. At least they were from GA so it is very limited on the rust..
