2000 Ford Mustang 3.8l

I just picked up a 2000 ford mustang for 200$. Friend was in need of cash and 200$ was all i had on me. About fail in the floor when he said solid lol!
Its got a clean title and everything.

He told me from the start the car needed a harmonic Balancer. He said that is what the repair shop told him.

I did not think this was the case but the Repair shop that told him this - Im good friends with. Anyway.
I got the BAlancer off - I dont see any issue with it. I dont see any cracks chips or brakes of any short.

Me myself - Im thinking this is a Tq/converter / flywheel issue - Im thinking the counter weights broke off and causing this! It dont seem to misfire - If you accl the engine it smooths out.

I also know cracked piston skirts and such can cause issues like this. Anyone got any ideas? Can some one throw some things at me that might cause this issue. Thanks - Video - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dZMN...ature=youtu.be

Well, they do. The rubber breaks down and they spin a little. Check out this one, worse than yours. Doesn't look worse than yours but it is:

Check post 20. Short version, balancer looked fine, no spin, no rubber. But a new balancer fixed the problem:

2000 mustang Major Vibration 3.8l - Mustang Boards

Earlier, I saw comments saying the balance shafts were front wheel drive motors only. Not so according to this. Your vibration my be the balance shaft, as with rpm it smooths out, which would be the result of all the slack in the timing chain being taken up. At idle, the chain goes slack and the cam and balance shaft goe out of synch. The balance shaft is geared to the cam, but the cam is chain driven.

But, the timing chain has a tensioner, which usually prevents the worn chain from getting sloppy enough to get the cam out of synch. It's possible the chain is beyond the limits of the tensioner or other troubles lurk behind that front cover.....

Try the harmonic balancer. If it still shakes, go deeper......
