For me to soon to know. I need to know more about the revisions to both the 3.5 ecoboost and the 5.0 first. Not to mention the fuel ratings for each of the four engines. Not that, that is as important to me as it is to some. But for the record it's not that I,m rich, cause I'm far from it. But it's just that I don't have false hopes nor do I expect that a 5-6000lbs truck with around 400hp will get the same fuel eco. while towing 11000lbs. that a damn Prius gets while empty.

 

I love my current 3.5 EcoBoost so much, I can't imagine buying anything else.

 

I picked the last V8 in the F150. Just because.

 

I learned to drive in a early 70's F-250, hauling hay. My brother had a '78 F-150 with a 4 speed (manual) 400. That is what I want. I own a'77 with a 351m/400 4 speed 4wd. sad to know we can only get a 5.0.

 

I learned to drive on an 1972 F250 with the 390, and I've owned 1977 F250's with the 460 and 400 engines.

I'd still take the 3.5 EcoBoost.

 

I chose the 3.5L Ecoboost mainly because I have one and I can testify that they aren't as problematic as the internet may allude to.

I think the 2.7L will be a great choice but the 3.5L is great on gas when properly geared and delivers an abundance of stupid raw power that just makes a grown man get all smiley.

 

I have not had the honor of driving an ecoBoost vehicle. My boss has a 2014 platinum-150 and says he gets 11 mpg. My wifes 1966 F-100 has a 460 and is wildly impressive to drive. It also gets about 11 mpg. Call me on it if ya want to, but old school Ford power is badass.

 

It's a toss up for me between the EcoBoost engines and the Coyote. I don't do much towing right now, and its normally a 17' 1974 Starcraft with a 70hp Evinrude and a custom made ice fishhouse/camper. However the boat sits dormant for the last few years and the fish house doesn't move until Rifle Deer season in November and whenever our lakes have enough ice to hold the thing without breaking under the weight.

At work I have driven both the EcoBoost and the 5.0L. I like the diesel torque feeling of the 3.5L and with my style of driving I would be in the peak torque range. But I have not been able to test out for obvious reasons the 2.7L EB to give my 2 cents about it. Seeing the video of it in the Baja 1000 race, I am impressed...however with the CAC issues I would probably put my money on the 5.0L if I had the dough to buy a 2015 F150.

My current F150 at the best mpg was 19.2...from Kearney, NE to Prior Lake, MN without the interstate while driving around 55-62mph. Ideally if they offer the EcoBoost in 3.73 (not sure if they do never looked into it), I'd probably jump on it.

The 5.0L being somewhat familiar with it, I like how the coil packs are easy to get to and you don't have to dig under plastic covers to get to them...they are right there in your face where they belong! In the bit that I have driven turbocharged engines, I am impressed by them. But I like the simplicity of the N/A engines. So I guess it would depend on my mood, what kind of deals I can get, mileage and how easy to dang thing is to work on without a car lift.

 

for me towing is not an issue.....the 5.0 is perfect...power and decent mpg

 

I'd have to see the fuel economy numbers, but if the 2.7L is as big of an improvement as I think it will that would be my choice. I don't have my big trailer anymore, so unless I needed to tow something heavy the little V6 would probably do a fine job for me.

It has 11% less torque and 12% less horsepower than the bigger 3.5L EcoBoost, and it happens to be around 10% lighter than the current trucks. Meaning the 2.7L engine should feel roughly equal in the 2015 to a current-gen 3.5L truck when empty.

I think lots of folks are discounting the 2.7L engine simply because of its size. I believe that to be as big of a mistake as those who did the same a few years ago to the 3.5L EcoBoost.

 

I'd get the 3.2L Powerstroke.

Really though, I'm torn between the 5.0 and the 3.5L ecoboost. My fun side wants to get a regular cab/short bed 5.0 and then add a blower. My more practical side says crew cab ecoboost.

 

I'd go with the 2.7 Ecoboost. I've got the 3.5 in my truck now with 3.55, and for how little I've actually used the power and gearing, vs the long interstate drives unloaded, I'd be fine going with the 3.31 gears, 2.7 Ecoboost and take advantage of the better fuel economy. That said, I've still got my '95 to play with when I need to tow, the V8 noise, or more power.

 

Going with the 2nd generation EB motor for sure !

 

I have a 3.5 twin turbo right now and love the engine, I have a max tow and need/want the torque and horsepower for towing my travel trailer.
