Judge for yourself, watch the videos:

My little 3.5L EcoBoost was the fastest up the hill last year with a 15,000 lb trailer. Faster than the 6.2L V8 or 6.8L V10 powered trucks that were there, and roughly equal to the 6.0L diesel truck. Of course some of that was because I was a little lighter than the others, but we did my truck no favors. We waited to run until the hottest part of the day, and there were four adults in the cab.
I watched those videos, this was not a Ford sanctioned event, that was awesome what you did with a little v6!

Juvenile stuff is what makes the world go round! The only thing I miss is the sound track from the 5.4, it did have a nice rumble to it, so I fixed that, I went out and bought an old corvette!

Ecco boost 3.5 all the way

I have the 3.5 eccoboost now. The setup performs great in all situations. I was really impressed in a couple cross country trips I made towing my car in the car trailer. Plenty of pull through the mountains. No problems in the heat or cold.

Me too. If maybe the ecoboost sounded a bit better id consider it, because the 5.0 I drove, bottom end was a bit lacking.

So far, it is a dead heat between the 5.0 & the 3.5 EB, with a slight advantage to the V8, even though the EB is a better performing engine. Hopefully Ford is listening ( I'm pretty sure this poll reflects the general mind set of the truck buying public) and they don't completely phase out the V8's, it would be a shame. IMHO, they should still offer the 6.2L in the half ton segment, in the New lighter F150, it would be an animal. Would love to see a "forced induction" 5.0 also..........

I hope you are joking about a 2014 getting 11 mpg. I have a 67 that gets that. Any vehicle getting 11 is grounds for a lawsuit.

I want the V8 sound in my truck. My brother and friends have the ECOBOOST and I am unimpressed. Sounds like an irrigation pump! From what I see it is no more powerful than the 5.0 and fuel economy is bout the same or in some cases, worse.
I spent years working with big diesel trucks and every time they tried to get more power out a smaller engine and work them with the bigger ones, they burned them up sooner every time! I'll take a V8 thank-you.

I'd give the 3.5 booster a try

The 5.0 is a tremendous blend of power and economy in a low-maintenance package. It has a nice, smooth tone without being loud and obtrusive or car-sounding like the EB. If Ford is pushing the EB, the 5.0 is hurting them. Yeah, I understand it can do a little better than the 5.0 in mpg if hyper- miling, and has significantly more torque, but so many people are very satisfied with the 5.0L. We just got 20mpg in a 2011 5.0L crew 4x4 hauling 1500lbs in the bed (overloaded) for a 275 mile trip. I couldn't believe it got that kind of mileage. Sorry Ford, a full-size truck should have a V8.

None of the above! Ford needs to get its head out of its butt and put a diesel in the F150. Have an ecoboost and the mileage towing is horrendous!

When are they going to put a diesel in the F150? I have heard rumors of this for almost two decades.

I used to want a half ton diesel, but not now. F150 engines are just right. I'd have to be driving like a long haul trucker to make up for costs.

Can you imagine what it would be like to have a diesel motor in the light weight f150 that could pull just about anything, get mid 20's mpg and go 300k miles.

Diesel aren't they the way they used to be, abuse them and they run forever. Thanks to the EPA they are burdened with emission gear, that kill longevity andddd mpgs....
