My Viair Dual 444C install

After asking around (here and other sites) I finally decided to go ahead and mount my dual compressors from Viair with 5 gallon tank.
After reading others opinions, I wanted the tanks to be mounted upright to get the longest life out of them. Not having a pickup, it made this a little harder.
I also wanted to be able to access them easily for any maintenance required.

Here's what I did.

First, I removed one of the "L" brackets from the factory running boards to make room. I chose to remove the "L" bracket under the B Pillar on the drivers side

The only thing I had around to mount them on was an old street sign. I painted the one side (back side of sign) which will face the ground. I used a stainless piano hinge to mount the plate to the Ex. I predrilled the holes on the Ex where the piano hinge will mount. I uses all SS hardware to prevent future rust issues

I lined up the compressors on the plate and predrilled the holes.

Next, I mounted the Compressors so the air intake will face the front of the truck.

Once everything was buttoned up, this allows access to the compressors after removing the 3 3/8" bolts which hold the plate to the bottom of the frame. It only takes about 2 minutes to climb under the truck, remove the 3 bolts and let the plate drop down to a 90 degree angle.
All I have to do now is finish up the wire looms and run the air lines.

I ended up using 8 AWG wire which was probably way more than I needed. I have them wired to a rocker switch on my F-650 Dash mod so I can control when the compressors are turned on.
After everything was bolted up, I noticed the plate I used is not as rigid as I would like so I will order a piece of 3/16" SS plate to eliminate all flexing when going down the road.
Now I can install the air tank & run the air ines as soon as the rain quits. More tomorrow.

That's an original idea on the swing down plate, with the new SS plate it should be sweet. Any thoughts about a vertical plate to keep road debris and water/slush/slop off of the compressors? Looking forward to the completed install.

I really like that! Are you planning on doing any sound deadening to keep it quiet on the inside?

Nope. With the windows rolled up and the engine idling you can't hear the compressors unless you are specifically listening for them.

What about using a Semi-Truck Mudflap ( Rubber, not hard plastic ) as a shield to keep crap off the compressors? It could be trimmed to fit perfectly and allow easy access when/if needed....

Just an idea!

The install looks great!

Do you have a plan for clean air? Using the supplied filter, drawing outside air, I lost my first compressor in <2 years. The pump cylinder was toast, and a rebuild kit wasn't much less than a whole new unit. Your vertical mounting will help improve service life. I remember seeing more aggressive scoring on the downhill side of the jug(mine was mounted at about 60°).

Thats a good idea. I have one of the hard mud flaps in my garage. I don't want the plastic fixed to my mounting plate because then it would not be able to hinge. I'll have to look a little more into that in a couple weeks when I get back in town.

Where did you mount the air tank?

After work tonight I mounted the tank. I mounted it between the drivers frame rail and the drive shaft, parallel with the frame. I used a tap to thread the brackets used so I wouldn't have to worry about getting the nylock nuts in tight spaces.

Next I installed the tank plugs, air hose connectors, psi switch and drain. I then ran the hoses to their destinations and completed the wiring.

After this was done, I mounted the front quick connector (for air hoses) on the drivers side front bumper support bracket, right next to where I had previously mounted my "Marinco Mod."

Then I installed the rear quick connect. I decided to mount it on one of the rear bumper support, It is next to where I mounted my air bag schrader valves

All in all I am very happy with the install. Everything works great. Hopefully tomorrow I can get all the wires tidied up and looms installed.
I also hope to to get the airbags linked into this system and then sit back and wait for my Shocker Train Horns to get here to finish the system.

That looks great! Very nice job.

Any idea what kind of air (cfm rate) you can move with that setup?
