Well this definitely lays to rest the possibility of using them as rock sliders or emergency jacking points.
I don't think the retention of water will be as much an issue as mud will be, but personally I would still drill a few drainage holes on the bottom to help out. There are openings on the front and rear where the walls are bent around, so water and such has a place to go. Seeing as how I play offroad every now and then, I'm thinking the plan to weld a plate on the backside is a necessity rather than a preference. Probably help strengthen them up a bit in case they get smacked around a bit too.
Time to start in on the little upgrades I had in mind

Mine should be here Friday, however when i removed the OEM steps i noticed Satan ( ancient mid-western name of the evil we now refer to as rust ) has set up shop and dispite the economy seems to have bucked the trend and is setting record profits!
one must sit back and gaze in wild eyed wonderment at the industrious removal of metal from my vehicle.
exorcism by torch and spot weld cutter is being organized as I type..looks like new inner and outer rocker panels on both sides. Hope everyone else won't have to go through this.
