Hello. I usually browse the 48-56 forum but Ive been looking for a newer 4x4 and found this one.

Its a 92 4x4 supercab 5.0 auto with 131k miles. Almost new set of BFG all terrain TA's, very straight body, very clean interior. Hood for sure and possibly the roof have paint failure and a little corner cab rust. Issues stated by the dealer are 4x4 and A/C not working. Probably pretty easy repairs. From the pics it appears to have manual Warn lockers. Did they have the option of manuals in 92 or always auto?
anyways Dealer wants $3995. I havent seen it in person or drove it yet. Going to try to tomorrow. I think if everything was working that would be a good price.

4x4 not working would be my hard line for a bargain. I suppose being in Oklahoma the AC is a pretty big deal too. You're right, probably a fairly easy repair, even if you have to drop the t-case and replace a shift fork it's not that big of a deal, but don't let on to the dealer that you're aware of that.

As for hub lockouts, the autos typically fail with any honest use, and Warns are a good swap. I'm not completely sure, but I think some trucks were ordered with lockouts. They were Warn hubs rebranded as Ford.

I'd say offer $3k but they will probably just say no way. $3500 or so seems like a decent deal to me, but in I'm a terrible businessman when I like something..

 

Thanks Goin, Thats what i was thinking. A/C is a pretty big deal here but this wouldnt be a daily driver so I could live without for awhile. Its been on the lot for 3 or 4 weeks so they may be motivated to move it.

 

I guess I'm just spoiled out here in Oregon. Out here a rusty truck with broken A/C and non functioning 4WD is not worth $4k...

 

you should see what newer used are selling for. 2 year old 150k+ miles dang near MSRP. its ridiculous here.

 

You could look at the trucks listed in Colorado. The Tacoma trucks get all the hype there (insane what guys pay for those little things with 200k+ miles, same goes for Subarus), so Fords are usually pretty affordable and rust free if you look on the western slope. Some salt on the front range, so they're usually not quite as clean.

 

I've only dealt with private sellers so my opinion should be taken with a grain of salt. ANY truck that has rust issues and malfunctioning 4wd and A/C is worth less then 4k.

 

Well went by there after they were closed. Rear fenders have rust and the cab corners are pretty bad. Rear tires are just about 50% Fronts are new. I think I'm gonna offer $1500 and see how they act. Interior looks pretty good.

 

I wouldn't go more than $2000 on it.

Two years ago, I bought a 1995 Flareside. It was the 300, 5 Speed manual, reg.cab short bed 2x4 truck, but it had 110k on it, new tires, working A/C, and not a spec of rust (Wyoming truck all it's life). That truck I paid $2500 for. To this day, I think I overpaid a little, but hey, live and learn...

Look around. For $4000, I could find better. Heck, a 2005 GMC 1500 4x4 WYDOT truck sold at auction recently for $4800.

I think $4000 for that is a high price- at best.

A close friend of mine got a SPOTLESS 93' F150 5.0 just like that for 2 grand. And when I say spotless, not a spec of rust or even a dent. No mechanical issues either.

If it's rusting in the rear, it's only going to get worse until something is done about it. As for the non-working 4x4, that could be a number of things. Sounds like they're trying to get somebody to overpay. Do some more looking. The right truck is out there somewhere.

 

After browsing CL & looking at F150-F350s in Colorado (mostly clean), I agree with the above. That's quite high for that truck.

 

In 92 the A/C was R12. So a conversion to R134A most likely a compressor gone.

I bought my 95 F150 4x4 5.0 5 speed with everything working for $2700 out the door.

price is in line for the most part. You will always "hear" about the better deal someone else got, most of the time it's BS or they leave out the fact the seller was a family member or buddy who was hurtin bad for money. 4wd not workin could be the switch on the dash or shift motor, both easy fixes as you know. "Rust issues" are relative to location. In N Mich that truck would be a cream puff and in other areas like Arizona or new mexico it's rusty junk, all depends where your at. Truck looks clean, miles are low for age and if you got it for $3000-3500 I'd say you did ok. You go to Wy, you might pay a hair less for a lil bit nicer, but what happens when you get there and the trucks got other problems? not too mention the gas/airfare there and back, what if you leave empty handed, now your really in the hole on a new to you truck.
