Question What's bad and how do I fix it?

Hi all, new here trying to find a solution. 05 E350, bullet proofed, Live Wire programer. Clutch fan has started coming on a lot. Am told that if it goes bad it will never go off but this one comes on with engine cold, then goes off, comes on after stopped at pretty much every stop light (engine heat according to gauges on programer is typically 185 to 200 degrees) and then will slow down and go off unless I can't get going fast enough because of traffic or speed limit and then it will just be there waiting for me to add some speed so it can roar some more before it goes off. Any ideas? Anything I need to check? I'm told that the clutch fan is controlled by the PCM and it tells it that engine is hot to turn on......is computer going bad?
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

No, EGR gone, programer told it's no longer there. Engine was finished up in November and this started about two months ago, been getting worse as time goes by. Started out it was just a "what the hey" moment when it would come on leaving the house with the engine still cold and now it has progressed to on a bunch of the time.

EGR valve still needs to be plugged in for the fan to operate correctly.

Josh did you get a chance to do further testing

I didn't, but hopefully this Saturday I'll try my truck (06 VXCF4) and a 2005 F550 with I believe either the VXCF5 or VXCF7 strategy.

Any possibility the AC is running higher than normal pressure causing the fan to kick on to cool it? I would think the easy way to test this theory would be to just turn the AC off and see what happens.

Tried that, thought the AC might be causing the problem but nope, that didn't work. Saying that, I will mention that a couple weeks ago in Florida it got a whole new compressor and stuff and it seems to come on more often, although, less at highway speeds. Josh, if the egr needs plugged in, why wouldn't Truck Source Diesel that built the motor (OK, redid the motor) tell me that so I wouldn't go nuts trying to figure out what was going on? I know they've done a lot of motors there and have a good reputation so I would think they would pass that information on.

The fan is commanded OFF @ 50 mph unless an overheat overrides that command. That's why the fan settles down at highway speeds.

As for the unplugged EGR effecting the Fan function, I do not believe too many actually know about it. Cheezit is one that has stumbled upon it, and something out of curiosity I'll check out this weekend with IDS.

Fan is coming on with engine cold, probably 85 degrees and out and about after warmed up probably 185 to 205 in our beloved (not) south Texas heat. As I said in post, pretty much every stop light. So, if the egr is gone and this is what is causing it, why would it have waited 7 months to start doing it and then get worse and worse as time goes? Would it be possible to maybe put an alternate electronic thermostat control (like the ones that come with add on electric fans) on the system to keep the fan from coming on all the time? Or, if you're good at watching temps, a switch control? Just wondering, since I just retired, money is a little tight right now and that roaring fan most of the time is driving me crazy. I'd also hate to replace the clutch fan if it's not bad causing the problem.

Was the fan coming on randomly before the A/C work?

The a/c high pressure switch is a factor in fan operation.

Yep, pretty random, seems to be coming on more and more often though. Like I said, doesn't seem to matter if A/C is on or not. I've tried it without and all that happened is I got hot. Can I put a switch in if I keep an eye on temps? I understand it's not supposed to come on until around 220? I imagine it's hurting power and mileage coming on all the time.
