WARNING! DON'T BUY ANYTHING FORD CERTIFIED

Last Tuesday I paid $3500 for a ford certified transmission 5R110W for my V10.
It leaked fluid out the first day and I went back to the dealer, overfilled was the verdict. I towed 300 miles the next day and the tranny leaked. I washed it off and looked at it to find a crack in the housing behind the dipstick on the passenger side. I went to a Ford dealer. OrigionallyI wanted a Ford Remanufactured transmission, but none available. But the 100k/3yr on the certified sounded good enough.
Now I have waited since last Friday and this is Tuesday, to find out that Ford did not rebuild this transmission, but a company called RMP rebuilt it for Ford, but then I found out that they didn't rebuild it either, another company actually rebuilt it, yes three in the line of events. The rebuilder blames the Ford dealer for putting the dip stick in wrong and that cracked the transmission. RMP says that they will not warranty a cracked transmission case. The dealers are saying its the rebuilders fault and I am just the customer stuck on the side of the road at a friends house while these folks go the run around about who's responsible. What ever you do do not buy into this mess Andrew.

Sorry to hear about your trouble. Hopefully the dealer will get it all sorted out, but I think 9 times out of 10 you would be alright with a Ford Certified Reman, you just happened to be the lucky 1

I don't mind being the lucky 1, I understand things go wrong, but I do expect a quick response. The photos have been sent and viewed by all parties, the blame game ensues and I am looking a renting a van to do 600 miles this coming weekend and who's going to pay for that? I would like to be impressed yet, and I wonder how much confidence I will have as I drive around this country with a transmission that I don't know will live, and I don't have a clue who rebuilt it, that won't have a good warranty when I need it! Andrew.

Okay, just to update. RMP has completely dropped the ball. My Ford dealer in Massena NY has really stepped up to the plate for me.
They ordered a Jasper Transmission this morning delivered to the dealer here in Owego NY for installation. They are going to deal with RMP and dismantle the tranny themselves and see what made it crack, then proceed with the warranty claim.
They are covering the installation cost right now and will claim that on the RMP warranty too.
They said they will not get another Ford Certified tranny knowing what they know now.
I am very impressed and will be talking with them about whether I owe them any money for the initial cost difference between the two transmissions. I don't mind paying for service if I get it and I am impressed at this time.
I will keep you guys posted. I am going to feel a lot better driving knowing that I have a Jasper when I am going down the road. Thanks for the input AE

Well good! Glad to hear it's all working out, and a dealer is willing to bite the bullet for a customer
