These are built like tanks but they got delivered stripped often, 4x2s (except some that were modified) and a mix of gas and diesel. Post a VIN and I'll give you lots of details.

all F-superduties were delivered from the factory as 2 wheel drives.
there were a few companies that did 4 wheel drive conversions on them , the most popular probably was Marmon-Harrington.

you can pretty much get anything you need for the truck by asking for parts for an 88 F-350, except for the rear axle and parking brake assembly. that is a dana 80, and has either 4.56, 4.63, or 5.13 gear ratios.

The F-Super Duty 1987-97 (the original super duty prior to '99 pickups) was introduced to bridge the gap from the F350 to medium duty trucks. It was a commercial cab & chassis 2WD dually only optioned truck.
Known at the time as the "One Ton Plus." It sports a HD frame, the hydroboost brake system w/ 4 wheel disc brakes.Though they are 2WD trucks, they are equipped with 4WD transmissions but, rather than a transfer case, they come with a drive line emergency/parking brake. A HD dana 80 rear axle that came from ford with gear ratio options intended for two purposes; heavy hauling & towing. They came in various wheelbase lengths with up to a 15,000 LB GVWR.It's widely known as the F-450 equivalent with many auto stores listing parts under either name.
These trucks are easy to spot with their pickup size cabs, yet unique F-Super Duty fender emblems & 10 lug wheels.
axle code 72 = 4.63
axle code 73 = 5.13

Enjoy your real Super Duty! A truck when Ford still made TRUCKS, my buddy has a 1995 F450 and compared to my 2004 F350 its makes my truck feel like a F150

kurtis1971,

2FD - Ford Motor Company of Canada
L - GVWR 14,001 - 16,000 lbs
F47 - Super Duty
G - 7.5L
J - 1988
C - made by our Canadian friends in Oakville (Ontario)

These trucks can (and often do) last a lifetime. I'd suggest you invest in some good Ford service manuals readily available on the internet for pennies on the original dollar.
