That's pretty funny, I used to travel for a living and I don't think Oklahoma has done ANY road maintenance since they originally paved. haha

There's some places in the country where I'm positive that driving next to the road would be smoother than on it but the reality is that unless you are driving somewhere that's really working the suspension or live in an area that high ambient temperatures then the reservoirs are admittedly (from a guy that has them) just a "cool kid" part.

If you're at a swap meet and find 7100s with reservoirs for $30 then buy'em, I did.

5100

The single most critical link to the overall performance of a lifted pickup or a sport utility vehicle is the shock absorber. That's why Bilstein has developed the new 5100-series shock absorbers specifically built and valved for trucks with a suspension lift.
Based on Bilstein's monotube technology and experience gained through years of off-road dominance, the 5100-series shocks deliver a level of performance never before available.

  • 14mm Hardened Chromed piston rod
  • One piece alloy rod guide & seal system
  • 46mm piston with self-adjusting digressive valving
  • One piece seamless monotube shock body
  • Patented nitrogen chamber and floating dividing piston
  • 360psi gas pressure

Thanks David, I was just curious about the clearances with the "eye" bolt passing through the bracket/shock eye and the stock shock mount.
I haven't looked at shocks in a while so I'm not up to date on the topic, but for my highboy I do want eyelet style upper/lower mounting.simply because of shock availability.
Here's an idea, picked these up for $11 at my local u-pull! Front superduty 4x4 mounts

These are vey stout and should crossover to any of our leaf sprung 4x4's fairly easy!

I have a 74 F350 2WD and I put new Monroe Magnum Gas shocks all the way around and am not impressed. I have a 78 E350 Chassis Class C motorhome that had Monroe Magnums on it. I just replaced them with some Bilstein's and what a difference! I'm going to replace the Magnums on my 74 F350 with Bilsteins.

HIO: I didn't see Bilstein's available for my 78 ford f250 on shockwarehouse. What would you recommend as second best?

Thanks,
Jon

The most common are Monroe Gas Magnums, KYB GR-2s, and Rancho 5000s. On the upper end are Bilstein shocks.

Regardless, visit Bilstein - KYB - Rancho - Monroe - Edelbrock Automotive Truck Shocks and Struts - Shockwarehouse.com for good prices and fast delivery. Their customer service is also above par.

No second best required. Refer to the part numbers provided to spec a 2WD 78 F250 and look at what other applications they will fit. Then search for an application that uses the same. I used KYB Gas-A-Justs to find crossover PNs. For whatever reason, Bilstein lack PNs for 79 and older F250s.

Here are the PNs I came up with for Bilstein HD 4600 shocks:
Front... 24-184-656
Rears... 24-013-291

Of course, call Shockwarehouse to verify. Like I said, their customer service is above par. Do it.

It's a little too late cuz I already own them, are Doetsch good shocks? They are on my bench waiting for other parts from the inept lift kit supplier.
