Front + Rear Shocks Recommendation / Replacement

Hello all,

I am looking to replace all four shocks on my lifted 1979 Ford Ranger XLT Supercab + Longbed with new shocks. My riding style is 80% road and 20% dirt.

Can you provide me with good shock recommendations? It has been 10+ years since they have been replaced.

Thanks!

I am running Gabrial "premium" gas shocks on my '78 F250 4wd. It is stock height and near stock size rubber. They work fine in my application and are not too expensive.

shocks as well

I've got a '78 ford f250, 300, 2WD.
I'm replacing the shocks as well, so if anyone has advice on performance shocks I'd like to know what you think (brand, website, etc).

I have run KYB's on my last three trucks, I have been satisfied with them so far.

The only ones I put a lot of miles on, were in a 1997 F350 Crew Cab Diesel and they did fine.

These rigs ride rough due to stiff springs and coils. It really doesn't mar what shock ya put on them. Let your budget be your guide.

The most common are Monroe Gas Magnums, KYB GR-2s, and Rancho 5000s. On the upper end are Bilstein shocks.

Regardless, visit Bilstein - KYB - Rancho - Monroe - Edelbrock Automotive Truck Shocks and Struts - Shockwarehouse.com for good prices and fast delivery. Their customer service is also above par.

I ran bilstiens on my old deisel,I really like them.Hio hooked me up with shockwarehouse, and they pulled numbers and sent me the correct rear shocks. For the fronts to use bilstien I have to adapt this part.

Hi, if you know the lift manufacturer and the amount of lift, Then replacement shocks should be readily available. Also most companies have at least 2-3 levels of quality/performance/price too.

Hey lafermedavid, have you mounted your front shocks yet, and if so, how well do those adapters work with the factory mounts? Thanks

I've got Bilstien 7100 remote reservoir shocks in the front and Rancho RS9000 in the rear, when I find another set of Remotes for a deal I'll put them on the rear.

I had Monroe gas charged shocks all the way around before and I will never put bargain or OEM type shocks on a vehicle again after running the Bilstiens.

shocks

''Hey lafermedavid, have you mounted your front shocks yet, and if so, how well do those adapters work with the factory mounts? Not yet Chris, till motor installed.I have not even purchased the fronts.I cant see why that shock bracket would not work, sorta like something you would fab.Would allow me to run the 5100 in the front ,like the rear.Unless the resevoir is a major improvement, which I do not know.

Reservoirs on shocks is mainly to add fluid capacity and reduce shock temperatures, not needed on a street vehicle. For the type of uses I'm building my truck for (prerunning) it's a benefit.

Bilstien sells shocks with a Stud type top mount, so you wouldn't need the adapter.

Personally I'm poor so I use the best parts I can get a deal on, those adapters wouldn't be hard to make at all.

It's clear that you haven't seen some of the roads in the mid-West nor county-maintained roads in Khalifornia.
