exhaust and cold air intake

My brother is putting a dual cat back straight pipe exhaust on his 5.0 would a cold air intake benefit much? If so what brand is most popular or best to use? He does mostly city/highway driving with very little gravel roads or off roading

An intake will definitely help. If you open up one end, do the same for the other. I'm looking at getting an AEM Brute Force for my 5.0. I'll probably end up getting it next year as I've spent enough on the truck this year.

Existing OEM, stock air intake ...

is CAI.
.
has air flow (CFM) that meets/exceeds the requirements of ANY non-uber modified engine.
.
co$ts nothing, 0(zero) $$$$$

Aftermarket air intake ...

provides no (or less than no) performance gains (HP and/or MPG).
.
any air flow increase (which is unnecessary) comes at the expense of filtration.
.
(oiled filters) contaminate the MAF sensor which causes decreased performance (HP and MPG).
.
co$ts BIG $$$$$$$$$$.

If performance gains are your goal use the $$$ to purchase a tuner and tunes.

The AEM Brute Force is a dry filter CAI.

MISINFORMATION. On non-uber mod'ed engines aftermarket exhaust and CAI account for little to no performance gains. ANYTHING that would be realized (or at least 99%) would be the result of a tuner/tune.
