2005 F-250, 6.0 with 35,000 is worth Nothing!

I have a 2005 F250 SC with 6.0, has 35,000 miles, XLT, just put $825 in it, had turbo cleaned, updated oil pressure lines to turbo and updated return oil line, blue-spring, anti-freeze flushed, egr valve cleaned and new air filter. Looking at a '15 GMC 2500 with a gas, $49,000 truck, they aloud me $12,000 for trade. Ford Dealer was no better, give $16,700 off the sticker price of $49,700. Truck is in excellent condition or at least very good, this really sucks!

Dealers low ball you on trade. You are better off selling it private party. Just book it out online and that will help you get an idea on your asking price.

They obviously don't want a sale that bad. Sell private and then go back with cash deposit. Just keep walking away until they put something on the table you want. Every time you start walking they will change their tune. Wait for the last business day of the month helps:-)

Then they turn around and ask a hell of a price when they sell it used.
They know it's worth $$ and they try to get them dirt cheap.

I most happily traded in my bought brand new $42k 2005 3500 4x4 ex cab duramax for only $22k (2 years after buying it) on the Ford I now own -- it had about 5 thousand miles on it, much time in the shop trying to figure out why every single one of those pieces of chit overheat

It's because they were designed to overheat! Oh wait, that would mean an engineer actually looked at the changes they made to the motor and thought??? jeeeese... we're cutting down on the cooling system and raising the power, wonder if the cooling system can handle it?!

I couldn't look someone in the eye and say: this truck is fine. I took it in the shorts and traded it to a dealer who knew exactly what the LLYs were all about.

They sold it for $29k and I'm sure the poor sucker thought he was getting a deal...

There is a reason, you know, why GM had to get Federal money in order to not go completely out of business (let's just ignore the bankruptcy that screwed every one of their stock holders).

It isn't because they knew how to build cars and trucks or run a company...

Sorry, did I just go all RANT on this thread?!

Dealers typically offer about 50% of what you think your vehicle is worth, and about 60% of what honest retail is on it. It's just how the business works. Sell it on KIJIJI if you think it's worth more, you'll get a surprise. It ain't worth that much, it's going to be 10 years old on it's next birthday. 10 year old pickups just aren't worth what they used to be. Every computer, sensor, solenoid, fancy trick that makes that truck run is 10 years old.

I got rid of my 6.0 2 years ago and I had a very hard time. Dealers would not even look at them let alone take one in. The 6.0 name is dirt where I live. I sold my 2006 xlt sc for 15,500 with 88,000 miles. I sold because I knew if I held on it would only be harder and harder to sell. Your best bet is private sale. I hope you live in an area where the 6.0 reputation is not trash.

I was a salesmen for one of the biggest GM dealerships around the area....

Trust me they low ball the crap out of every trade possible.....Just walk away and then they will be calling you back begging you to buy a truck when they don't meet the quota from GM that month...

12K is peanuts for that truck....

Just shop around someone will eventually get you the # you think the trucks worth....

Just for fun, about a month age I booked mine out. I was kinda surprised to see the values for retail being almost $26k, private party $23.5k, and trade of $21k.

I know the OP has a different cab configuration but that shouldn't change it too much. Guaranteed, they will offer the $12k and throw it on the lot for $30k since its such a low mileage truck.

Man that means I have two cursed vehicles!! I also have a Cadillac Catera that the dealer doesn't want to work on. It is an electrical German nightmare! And it is the only vehicle that I know of that has a coolant oil cooler like the 6.0..I am waiting for that to go next!

How about just keep driving it? For the price of a payment each month, you can spend quite a bit on repairs and upkeep. After you put another 100,000 miles on it, put a snowplow on the front and make a little money with it.

I just did a quick kbb.com valuation and depending on where you are it should be around $18K.
When I ran my truck it was lower than what people have offered me off the street so the number above is probably low for you too, but as others have said why not keep it?

Why not go online and see what dealers are asking for similar trucks? Then discount that by a grand or two and sell it yourself!

I just purchased a 2007 F250 crew cab 4x4 short bed w/power everything for 13K,

the rep of the 6.0 kills the value. and it should.. Ford screwed up with s*it coolant, no coolant filter, no gauges, etc. walk into an international dealership and they carry almost nothing for the vt366; after asking why, the response i got was "the international trucks really don't have the problems the F-series do"
