Thats a good question, oil flows through the center bolt to the filter and its drilled to send oil to the cooler, then the cooler plate has a straight thru hole, I think It fills the filter then the cooler, Maybe someone else can chime in, I believe they both receive oil at the same time, if the filter clogs then it's bypassed and just goes thru the cooler Right? My head Hurts

I should explain why I am asking this question.....thinking about installing an additional external oil filter.....theb flow question would help me understand if the additional external would be primay or secondary. Point of my confusion is both the bypass feature of filters and the temp valve in the oil cooler filter adapter.
a.) if oil is cold , temp valve is closed, oil does not flow thru cooler, oil flows thru filter - I guess this can occur reguard less of where the oil gets redirected.
b.) if filter is clogged, oil does not go thru filter, when oil is hot, and filter is clogged, does it still go thru cooler.
c.) if filter is clogged and in by pass, would oil even flow to a second external filter?
