Power steering pump

K fellas. I need to replace my power steering pump. The front seal is leaking. My question is can I replace it with the f-superduty pump and do hydro boost later. I don't have the loot to do the whole system right now but being that I need a new pump anyway, will it work without the brakes hooked up

Yes. Just plug the upper return port. Any superduty will work that was used with the 7.3. It's the same pump.

Great info. I had assumed this to be true, but we all know what happens when you do that!

Yeah, I've made a lot of assume's. Lol. Thanks for the info. That's good to know. At least I can buy a few pieces at a time ad not have to jump in

With one small exception... the pulley on a Super Duty (99-03) has more ribs than an OBS. If it's from an F-Super Duty, no issues. Talking from a junkyard or parts store with pulley included perspective here.

Will my current pulley work on the hydroboost pump?

Yes. It's basically the same pump with a different reservoir with the SD pump, and the exact same pump with a different reservoir on the F-superduty pump. Just pull the old pulley off and put yours on. Most any parts store will have the pulley installer / remover tool for rent. I did mine in the parking lot.

Nick, do a write up on the hydroboost when you get around to it.

I'll do it but it won't get finished till next year. I am really not a fan of the vacuum brakes though. Just too unreliable IMO. Also I need a pump now and would hate to have to buy a different one within a year. The sucky part is the booster and master cylinder were replaced just before I got the truck and I have already replaced the vacuum pump.

no sir the obs and sd have 8 ribs per belt hence why the dual tensioner mod is popular if there were more ribs on the sd then it wont work for the obs also the pumps betweern the 2 are exactly the same just one extra nipplefor the hydroboost

I stand slightly corrected. My 94.5 has the same pulleys as an idi, so that's why it's different.
