Did you really watch the videos? I don't put much stock in factory infomercials as they are always biased, but, I think Ford removed the bias here with offering three trucks and three drivers.

My Eco has 40K on the clock now and nary an issue. I'm getting a rock solid 20 MPG's in mixed driving. No need for me to lie, I didn't build it so my reputation isn't at risk here.

You mentioned chronic turbo issues on past vehicles, I believe you referenced a Sprinter Van and a Subaru. If these were your vehicles then the common theme is you and your abuse or lack of common sense maintenance. Frequent high quality oil changes and the prescribed or recommended filtration will mitigate those issues.
Now that's the ticket, Tim! I love these videos meself, but I know it's not totally unbiased, but still, I think it happened the way Ford showed it. My number one priority in any truck is reliability! My current '02 is reliable. One day, when I do get a newer truck, just think how much I'll be improving! I make these big jumps because I keep me trucks so long.

Orderbooks will open the 28 of July

According to

Ford-Lincoln Trucks (Build Out Final Order Start Up Dates)

If it´s correct I hope for figures of the MPG at the same time.

A 2.7 V6 now makes significantly more power than my 5.8 does......

Excuse me while I go sit in my truck and cry.

I can't believe the Ram Ecodiesel was so far behind at the end, I guess 240 HP will do that compared to Ford's 325 HP. The Chevy 5.3 actually kind of kept up decently in the first 2 runs. I was impressed with Ford's honesty that the Chevy won by a few seconds when the temp went down. I sure hope mpg numbers come out soon, because the Ecodiesel seems to have the numbers to beat.

Tis a quandary for old school car guys, I recently came across an article about how todays mini vans have equal performance to yesterdays sports cars, Soccer Moms' Revenge: Grassroots Motorsports this is troublesome until you realize that the minivan with all its prowess is never going to make you smile when you slide behind the wheel of what ever it is that you take care of, like your 5.8 Ford pick up, I know that my 79 trans am has way less torque and horsepower than this new 2.7, but the 2.7 will never for us at least be anything more than a tool or an appliance.

I own an Odyessy, and I can confirm it's pretty fast, although boring to drive. That's a great attribute on the highway though.

I have some insider news to share about the 2.7L Eco Boost, it will get duel injection for 2017 model. The cylinder head is being redesigned to accept a duel injection setup. The cylinder head will keep the direct injection but add normal fuel injectors to the intake manifold. The engineers are telling me that the engine will control which injection method to use based on the boost generated by the turbos. Unconfirmed is that the 5.0L Coyote engine platform will be getting a similar duel injection setup for late 2017 adding an EcoBoost option.

It's interesting when you think about what ford said on the 2.7L....they used lessons learned from the 3.5L. They don't say what lessons they learned but what we do know is this.

1) compacted iron block
2) offset rods
3) twin timing chains instead of one super long chain
4) an upgraded fuel management system

I also find this interesting

375 ft-lbs from 2.7L is 139 ft-lb per liter
420 ft-lbs from 3.5L is 120 ft-lb per liter

So the 2.7L eco has a higher power density than the 3.5L eco and would appear to be built stronger and react to fuel demands faster. Makes you wonder what a 2nd gen 3.5L would be like? 490 ft-lbs at the same power density?

I think it's typical for smaller engines to have higher "specific output". So it's probably not fair to expect the 3.5 to put out the same 139 ft-lbs/Liter as the 2.7.

However, it's an interesting thought, I know I wouldn't say no to another 30-50-70 ft-lbs . . . .

My wife complains about the mpg in hers too....
(but only when I drive it and it gets below her 21 mpg around dfw - so I reset it just before I coast into the garage )

but I can certainly attest to the 3.5 twin turbo being FUN in an Explorer Sport...

I get out of the 350 diesel which is not bad at all and jump into the wife's sport and WOW, I have to set the cruise because it WILL get away from you quickly...

and it's very nice that our only complaint in 20k+ miles is with the Microsoft Sync system !

I keep saying Ford needs to EcoBoost the 5.0 and make it an SVT motor. I'd buy one in a heartbeat. Assuming even 120lb-ft/L, that's 600lb-ft... sweet...
