Where to start with diagnosing my gauge problems?
Hi,
I've been dragging my feet on fixing these two problems for a while but I think it's finally time.
Temperature gauge - hasn't work as long as I've owned the truck. Reads all the way to cold and never moves.
Gas gauge - always worked great until a few months ago. Now it goes up and down and does whatever it wants randomly. When it first started going out I could jiggle wires behind the dash and I think it would go back to normal temporarily, but this may have been my imagination or wishful thinking since it was never that convincing. I've pulled and cleaned the connections at the gauge and sending unit and it didn't seem to make a difference. I haven't traced them all the way back to the tank though, so I suppose there could be a problem in the middle somewhere.
I read a bit about ICVR (instrument control voltage regulator if I'm getting that right) and it sounded like it could possibly be the cause to at least the issue of the gas gauge. What do you think?
Also, where on the Y Block is the temperature sensor? I poked around a fair amount and haven't been able to find it.
Thanks in advance y'all!

B9MZ-10804-C .. ICVR ~ Instrument Cluster Voltage Regulator (Motorcraft GR-508) / Obsolete - Available from auto parts stores.
Applications: 1957/66 F100/1100 / 1965/66 Mustang / 1966/77 Bronco and etc etc etc!
When this puppy begins to fail, the needles of fuel and temp gauges "do the hula" swing wildly back/forth on their own.
Since the temp gauge doesn't work at all, the defective ICVR is only affecting the fuel gauge.
B7A-10884-A .. Temperature Sending Unit (1/4" -18 pipe thread) is located in the cylinder head. It threads into an insert that either threads into the head or is a press fit.
Applications: 1957/62 F100/950 / 1957/59 Ford Passenger Cars / 1955/60 Thunderbird and etc.

Could you give me some guidance as to where I can find the temp sending unit on the head? I'm wondering if it's maybe just disconnected or something stupid.

Radio Shack has the 7805 voltage regulator for about five bucks.
