Converting my 54 to Power Steering.

Converting my 54 to Power Steering.
My 223 has a single dampener pulley and the water pump has a dual pulley. Can the power steering pump be run with a belt from the outer water pump pulley or do I have to change the dampener to a dual pulley? Would another belt on the water pump pulley put too much stress in the water pump?

Or why not just add another pulley to the damper, will require a longer bolt, but
we do this adding snow plow rig. "yours is easy ya otta try this on the new impossible
trucks." And then many are run off the fan. My 59 Lincoln A/C compressor is run
off the fan. All my F900s air compressors run off the fan. so it was made that way.

I bought that pulley off ebay but I think Summit carries them also. I used an AC Delco alternator so its a fairly standard pulley.

I am still not sure which way to go with the PS pump drive location. It would be great to have a dual groove on the crank pulley but I have not found a pulley that could be bolted to the existing pulley or a dual groove pulley that could be installed in place of the original single groove pulley. Does anyone know where to get one or the other pulley or have one to sell?
I like the setup that Teardropty shows with the dual pulley on the alternator but I am wondering how the alternator bearings will hold up. My water pump already has a dual pulley that could be used but then again how will those bearings hold up? That dual pulley must have been put there for a reason. I recently bought a small "Canned Ham" PS pump and it seems pretty easy to turn so I am thinking it may not be too much effort to run it off either the water pump or the alternator. If I could easily make the crank pulley a dual groove I would run the PS pump off that. Any thoughts?

Why not? give it a try...
But if you are concerned about the bearing I would invetigate is it is possible to mount the PS pump on the opposite side of the alternator, so that you balance out the forces from the belts acting on the waterpump pulley. If you place both on the same side the forces will double up.
But if you put it on the opposite side you might actually save the bearing i.e make the life easier for the bearing
