How do you remove the fan clutch on a 88. Never done one before. First off how do you tell if its bad. When i first start the truck it has a loud rattle sound for about 2 seconds then goes away and then when you give it some gas it sounds like a helicopter. Idk if thats the clutch or something else but its a real loud rattle shaky sound. And next will one from a i6 work on it or are they different.

 

Grab the fan with your hand (engine off) is it real loose on the shaft? If so lots of play in the clutch hub yea sounds like it shot cause of the rattle you hear.

Look the fan blades over good to though, might have one thats cracked even one partially missing.

Don't believe the two are the same, 302 clutch bolts to the pump the clutch on the 300 six screws on the pump.

 

Alright i checked it and seems to have a bit of resistance. I can spin it by hand but when i let go it pretty much stops. No play or anything. Just stiff movement. And the fan looks good no cracks
