James Garner R.I.P @ 86
One of my all-time favorite actors has passed away---reminds me of great memories of James as Bret Maverick. Even though he's probably more widely known as Jim Rockford his entire body of work is pretty amazing. Long lost on so many Hollywood "celebrities" is he seemed to have lived a life without scandal, bouts of re-hab and generally showing what azzhats a person can be---he rose above that and acted like a man.
I hope he's resting comfortably now, a link to an article I found interesting, seems to sum up the person we thought we saw on the screen: Appreciating the relaxed genius of the late James Garner: Maverick, The Rockford Files & much more

I remember him as Bret Maverick in "Maverick".
I'm glad he got to play Bret Maverick's Dad in the big screen version, opposite Mel Gibson, James Coburn, and Jody Foster.
I thought he was great in "The Great Escape".
Great actor, and one heck of a nice guy, I hear.
Rest in Peace, Sir. You've earned it.

Jim was definitely a driving enthusiast, believe he once owned and drove an Oldsmobile in an off-road race.
Met him briefly at a sprint car event, about 1985 or so Indian State Fairgrounds in the VIP area. He was a bit drunk, very funny and still had quite the eye for the ladies. Given the pulchritude in that area that night can't say I blamed him for at least looking around.

Firstly: Thank you JWA for providing an opportunity to expand my vocabulary. It's not that I am a word nerd or anything approaching one. I just had to look up the definition of "pulchritude." Given the context, my guess was close. But, I had to look it up to be sure.

I also wish everyone "happy holidays" but being American I prefer "Merry Christmas and Happy New Year"---none of this "politically correct, non-offensive celebrations..." that might offend others.
BTW its Christmas, not "xmas".

You might be surprised as the history of "Xmas":
The "X" in "Xmas" Doesn't Take the "Christ" Out of "Christmas"

Sounds like a modern-day re-interpretation of something in order to redefine and soften its otherwise pejorative meaning.
Merry Christmas anyway!
