6.8L V10 Turbo (to be or not to be)

So i've had my 6.8 for a couple years, its in an 01 f250 and i'm getting a little bored. thinking about putting a turbo on it, but it seems it hasn't been done. I was reading through some decade old threads on here about people claiming they've done it but no one posts pictures or says how they did it.

Have any of yall done it? what size turbo would I need?
am I better with one large turbo behind the Y?
or can I flip my exhaust manifolds forward and do a twin turbo relatively easy?
how much boost is can I run with stock fuel injectors/mass air flow sensor?
and what other advice do yall have?

Hi Cole, welcome to FTE!

I'm going to send this one down to the V10 forum. I know there used to be some supercharger kits out there for the 2V V10, but I don't know if they are still made.

thanks for the reply tom! yes, ive seen some superchargers out there, but im actually looking to turbocharge my v10 . super charger will definitely add power, however with the constant boost at low rpms I will be having to stop at every gas station I pass lol.

im looking for the turbo option because of economy and having the power when I need it plus I think it would be cool to hear that turbo spooling up haha

You're implying you don't have to stop at every gas station already? My stock V10 sure did!

Not necessarily. A positive displacement unit would build boost at all RPMs, but a centrifugal one like a Procharger would behave more like a turbo.

turbo/super charger routs sounds pricy and rarely the per HP dollar cost is attractive. why not just go to newer 6.8 engine and pick up an easy 50 HP. sell your old v-10 to recoop some of the case.

you can also change your rear to 4.10 or better and add more seat of the pants wow factor

look at this link, guy said he installed an 'ELECTRIC" blower to his miata. Looks like a turbo of some sort, so maybe there is something similar for your application.

Big thing I was always told is that turbo requires better lower end and less compression in top end! A place in phoenix told me several years ago that they could do my old 351 for about $4000 with a supercharger, but to expect a 50% reduction in engine life! Matter of fact some years ago I found a turbo yamaha MC with suspect bad turbo. But with price it would have been a deal. I asked a shop about just removal of turbo and they basically laughed, said it would by almost useless due to low compression that the engine had WITHOUT the turbo, so again a reference to my earlier statement.

If ya find something let everyone know.
