460 going in the 59.
I'm going to drop in the 460 in the truck this weekend and wanted to know any tips and do i need a specific oil pan? it has the rear slump oil pan now.
I will drop the trans and everything in at the same time and hope i aling everything up. I have never done this before.

The rear sump oil pan is important to clear the axle. If your cab is still on, get the engine as low in the engine compartment and as far back to the cab as possible; you'll need all the room you can get up front because this is about the biggest engine you can stuff in there. I'm battling radiator clearance myself right now, so get every inch you can.

EDIT: I should never post that late at night.... I have a front sump pan. Either way, there is so much clearance, either will work.
I have the front sump pan from a Thunderbird & its no problem. The drivers side head is 1/4" from the firewall, & had to run a small electric fan up front, & it still hit the pulley until I swapped to solid motor mounts.
I was also able to keep the original rear crossmember with (again) 1/4" clearance to the C6 pan.

Were you planning a rebuild? If so, look up in the 335 engine forum. Someone has custom pistons that bring the compression up to 9.5. That brings the HP way up & torque is higher than the 460, since the stroke is longer.
I started looking at this option when I found out the 429 was such a tight fit. I have a 400 in the garage waiting for a rebuild, & I'm sure I could find another project that would love the 429!

I was not wanting to go that far. this engine has 52k on it and runs great. I have looked and there is a kit to bring it up to 350 HP and 440 TQ. add heads even more. So after another 6k I will have a great engine. I have pics of the engine in the truck now but i have to make engine mounts as the ones I have will not work.
