i cant be much help but will be watching as we will be putting a 460/c6 into a 63 f250 4x4. i am not worried about the pan since the axle rides a long way away from the pan. custom motor mounts, rad and trans cross member. we are gonna pull the hood and front clip just to make it easier.

The rear sump oil pan is important to clear the axle. If your cab is still on, get the engine as low in the engine compartment and as far back to the cab as possible; you'll need all the room you can get up front because this is about the biggest engine you can stuff in there. I'm battling radiator clearance myself right now, so get every inch you can.

EDIT: I should never post that late at night.... I have a front sump pan. Either way, there is so much clearance, either will work.

I have the front sump pan from a Thunderbird & its no problem. The drivers side head is 1/4" from the firewall, & had to run a small electric fan up front, & it still hit the pulley until I swapped to solid motor mounts.

I was also able to keep the original rear crossmember with (again) 1/4" clearance to the C6 pan.

big let down. after pulling the engine and bringing ti home i found out my 460 mounts do not look like the ones on this engine. This lead me to find out the engine is a 400m I'm so bummed. It makes great torque but 150 HP Its lighter than the 460 but...... I really don't know what to do.

Were you planning a rebuild? If so, look up in the 335 engine forum. Someone has custom pistons that bring the compression up to 9.5. That brings the HP way up & torque is higher than the 460, since the stroke is longer.

I started looking at this option when I found out the 429 was such a tight fit. I have a 400 in the garage waiting for a rebuild, & I'm sure I could find another project that would love the 429!

I was not wanting to go that far. this engine has 52k on it and runs great. I have looked and there is a kit to bring it up to 350 HP and 440 TQ. add heads even more. So after another 6k I will have a great engine. I have pics of the engine in the truck now but i have to make engine mounts as the ones I have will not work.

Well after about 10 hours and some re work I was able to get everything aligned. It sets low and is about 1/2'' from the firewall. The engine is too low for the fan to work. I am ok with that as an electric fan will work.
