Never before have I missed my Excursion so much

Truck's in the garage awaiting a rebuilding of the engine. This weekend I'm supposed to pick up my shiny new backhoe. But without my truck and pindle, I'm forced to use a f350 dually. Honestly, I'm scared. Coming back it's a LOT of hills up and down, down being the part that makes me weary. Without the weight of the EX, things can get scary fast.

The hoe weighs roughly 9500-10500lbs. Has 1000 in ccounterweights on the front that can come off without much difficulty and go in the back of the truck, but that's only 1k.

Should have thought of this last weekend when I was messing with other stuff.

Maybe... Heading down appalacian mountains with a trailer double the weight of the truck is not something i like to take lightly. Real easy to burn up the brakes.

Don't be afraid to downshift, it won't hurt the trans.

Is the dually stick or auto?

Yeah, I'll be keeping it in low gear. If it were more level of a travel I'd feel a lot better about it, but being so hilly, it'll be slow going with a great deal of traffic. At least the f350 is a manual trans.

Thanks. It's a last resort, just trying to be prepared. tri axel trailer iwth surge brakes, not electric.
Ideally the dump will be available and I'll feel better, but just in case I want to have a backup.

There she blows! Not full size, but not mini either. Right in the middle. Needs a bit of paint and a couple hoses but runs and digs strong with a 45hp diesel, 17gpm main pump, 9gpm secondary pump.

Don't be a baby!

Seriously though, it's an F350 Dually. It can handle that NO problem.

And as far as weight is concerned, I don't think the extra weight of your trusty EX will come in handy on those hills if you're concerned about burning the brakes on the dually.

Good luck and drive safe!

So, you're worried about using a vehicle that was designed to haul loads that are heavier than the Ex is designed for and to do it with more stability?

If it were a gooseneck probably not but pindle hitch, and all the weight of the hoe being in the hoe, it'll be hard to get proper tongue weight, especially if i take the counterweights off to ease up the overall weight.

It's not so much worry as it is making sure i'm ready. It is nice to hear so many reassuring words though

350 Dually is going to chew through that tow and laugh. You'll be just fine. Stay safe and congrats on the tractor!

(seriously, you're going to feel a little funny when you get home and realize just how easy it was to tow 10k with that 350).
