Tranny Temps

What is everyone seeing for Transmission temperature? My '15 runs a little warmer than the "11. I am getting up to 205F unloaded and at times higher than the oil temp. I also get 10 degree fluctuations within a matter of minutes on the highway. I initially thought the elevated temp (compared to my old '11 at a steady 192F) was due to breaking in, but now have over 1200 miles.

My dealer says there are no 2015 specs on temp range that he could find.

I see 199-205 most of the time unloaded.

Loaded can vary greatly but usually around the same till some hills, then around 210-215.

Seems normal to me. Unloaded I sit about 198, towing I'm usually between 203-208.

Heat is the enemy of transmissions.
You might want to talk to a transmission shop - maybe see if you need some service or perhaps an additional tyranny cooler.

Tranny fluid begins to break down at 200 degrees and it considerably shortens the fluid change interval.

The highest I have seen mine, 201, my truck is a 2014 with 1,002 miles on it. It may have gotten higher, I just didn't see it. And I haven't had it loaded or pulled anything yet, was waiting on the 1,000 Mile mark.

I pulled the 5k boat 280 miles today and the tranny temp was the same as unloaded, 194 to 205F. I don't understand the 10 degree fluctuations within 5 minutes on a flat road. The '11 never got over 192F after warm up, hauling or not. Maybe a few more thousand miles.....

The thermostats in the secondary cooling system open and regulate the upper radiator temperature at 140° F. The low temperature thermostat regulates the lower radiator temperature to 113°F

The Secondary cooling system cools the CAC, Fuel, EGR, and tranny So you can see higher temps on hot days when the coolant is working hard to cool all these components. Ford using a special transmission fluid that is designed to run at these 190-205° temps.

If you are seeing much higher than 205° tranny especially for any extended periods, Then I would be concerned. But anything under 205 in these summer driving conditions seems to be with in norms

My 08 6.4 always ran in the 160's regardless of load or outside temp.
So this is quit an increase.

Different tranny than the 08-10 models.

My 08 usually was around 180 and on a hard pull It could get to 210 or so. It was made to be able to take 220F for a short period of time.

This newer tranny just plain runs hotter for efficiency.

George, I am seeing the same temps you are with my 2015 F350, and thought the same thing about the temps being higher than my 2011 (from what I could remember). Also, remember that this tranny has different components from our 2011's. I'm glad I'm not the only one seeing these temps, it must be normal for the 15's.
