7" Headrest Monitor Install

Got some toys in the mail the other day and decided to throw them in the truck this weekend.

Made a quick template of the mount

Center the template

Trace the template out

The exciting part is always cutting into perfectly good stuff

Make the hole bigger and see what's in there.

Trim out some of the foam that was in the way, otherwise there are no other obstructions.

I didn't like how the seat back looked after I cut out the hole. It was lacking support because it was hollow and sort of sagged.

I decided to give it some support with a bit of foam I had lying around, cut it to size and glued the foam using some headliner adhesive

Had to run this cable down the side of the seat and it couldn't have been easier.

Got the rear mount screwed in and ready to go

Monitor installed and wired up.

Same steps for the other side

I haven't wired everything in just yet as I'm slowly building my setup and I need to order a video amplifier.

I need to see about going bigger on mine. It's got a minuscule thing and I believe the AC ducts may make things complicated.

You wanna talk about big flip down, my Scion xB I built a few years back had a 40" drop down right in front of the rear hatch. Had a lot of jealous kids watching my friends and I play CoD against each other on the ferry crossings lol.

Love the CoD reference there. I have my head liner out right now you want some photos of the backside so you can get the gears turning on what's going on up there?

From what I understand, there were two different setups for rear AC in the middle row. Three vents, or two vents. If you've got the three vent setup by all means please, PM me some pics so we dont gum up the thread.

Thanks,

I ordered an Android powered double din head unit last week so once that arrives I can tie it all in together.

I'm currently using a Dual XDVD9101 as a temporary unit since it doesn't have support for itunes format or any of the newer video formats.

Which head unit did you go with? And, assuming you've wired it all up by now, how do you like the setup? Any more pics?

And nice job. If it were me that first cut would have been nerve racking. Would love to try the same thing, but don't know if I could bring myself to make that first cut into perfectly good leather. The wrath I'd get from the wife if I screwed it up would be legendary...heh.

SuperDave, could you send me those headliner pics as well? It would definitely help me figure out what would be possible with a custom install or if I should just keep it simple.
