Not all 97's show tac movement.

Mine didn't and a few others here doesn't.

There is a thread floating around about it.

 

That's a new one to me then. I've always used a no tach movement as a bad CPS diagnosis. But I guess that 97 IS the weird year when it came to different things like a federal and california version...

 

Hey guys thanks for this great info will be at the truck around 2 and will check all things. How do I determine if my trucks rpm should move when turning over

 

You can hook it to a scanner to see if it sees rpms climbing or put a cps in it to see if the tac starts moving

Okay guys I was able to make it to the truck late last night. So I tried checking fuel pressure at the shrader valve but I could not get my gauge on it so did not get to check. But tried cranking the truck over and it did not fill filter bowl up. Also I noticed when I cut key on the wts light came on and cycled but was really fast like 5 sec, it has be around 80 here? So I checked all the fuses under dash and they were good. Then was checking the box under hood and found #17 blown witch was a maxi 30 for the icm or pcm. Replaced it but as I said then I tried again and the batteries for to weak to get it to turn over good. I will be charging battery today and any recommendations on the next step I should to w once I reinstall battery s. Thanks in advance

 

Charge the batteries and fill the bowl with fuel. See if it starts. Sounds to me like you need a fuel pump. If the bowl isn't filling up while cranking, more than likely the fuel pump went out. If the WTS light was coming on you still had power to the PCM.

I filled the fuel bowl up with fuel but no start. Will it start even if the pump in wok in? Does that fuel pump on frame pressure rise the bowl or something?

 

On a 97, there is only one fuel pump. It's a mechanical pump on the back of the engine right underneath the turbo. It's a dual-purpose; one plunger lifts low pressure fuel from the tank, and the other plunger pushes high pressure fuel to the injectors. The truck will not start if the pump is bad. You need a minimum of about 20 psi to start the truck, and then about 50 to run it. 65-70 psi is ideal.

You also need oil in the HPOP for the injectors to fire. There is a plug on the driver's side of the reservoir at the front of the engine. Oil should be approximately 1/2 to 1 inch below the top of the reservoir.

 

There is no pump on the frame unless some one put in a electric fuel system. From the factory these things came with a mechanical pump on the top of the motor. The pump is a 2 stage pump that first bring low pressure fuel from the tank to the fuel bowl then steps up the pressure to fill the injectors. You need a minimum of about 25psi to make it run. 50+ to run well

How much fuel is in the tanks ?
Have yiu tried both tanks ?

 

Yes, there is a full tank on the rear which the truck was running on when it shut down and the front tank is a little over half. Tried both tanks and still the same with 0psi at shrader valve while cranking over. Thanks for coaching me along.
