Besides being way louder what are the actual benefits to getting rid of the cat and muffler in a diesel?

Is there that big of a difference between 4" and 5"?

I'm trying to push more power out of my truck and I think starting with the intake and the exhaust is a good start.

 

Intake and exhaust are always a good start. Most of the upgrade require it and even without upgrades it just breathe a little easier

 

The biggest gain would be gutting/removing the cat. Followed by a 3" (or 4" if you're brave) down pipe. A good air filter (not K&N) is also beneficial. You should look into the 6637 mod or the filter in my signature. (I think I'm the only one here that uses it.)

 

Been looking around for turboback kits. (Don't want to run a 4 or 5" straightpipe from a 3" down pipe on the turbo. Figure that defeats the purpose.)

Anyways I found this diamond eye 5" turboback kit. Anyone ever run one?

I'm strictly looking for power and performance from this. Granted I love the sound of the turbo whistling but I don't want it to be flat out obnoxious.

A 3" downpipe into a 4" or 5" exhaust will not "defeat the purpose." That is just a common misconception. A 3" downpipe is probably good to 450 - 500 HP. Plus anything larger than a 3" is a major PITA! A 3" is hard enough. If you read the description for the kit you posted in that link, it says it comes with a 3" downpipe.

 

Get a 4" diamond eye kit from clay at riffraff and be done.

As said a 3" dp will support 500hp.

The difference between 4"-5" exhaust is mostly sound

I have the diamond eye 5". Pretty nice kit. Love the sound.

And unless my exhausted math is way off, a 5" exhausts cross area would be like 60% larger than a 4".

 

Either of you have a link? Think i'm going to just pull the trigger and do that.

Pretty sure i caught the fever. I am having way too much fun spending money on this thing.

There isn't a cure, either. Gets worse when you have multiple trucks.

I have the 4" system and love it, but I've never heard a 5" system as far as I know.

We call that PMS, PowerStroke Modification Syndrome!

 

Yup and I can normally keep it under control until Travis cones around. Lol

 

The only thing keeping mine under control is lack of funds, lol. I have done all the cheap mods.
