Under. Trim rings look nice also. Tabs on rings fold under the carpet.

Under the carpet then the trim rings over and under if you have vinyl with the trim rings again on top. If no trim rings, IMO under to shift boot to cover the rough edge of the carpet or vinyl.

FYI trim rings are cheap new or used....

What carpet? That is ol bed mat cut for HD floor mats on top of good ol vinyl in the silver 77.

And WITHOUT chrome rings might I add.

Here is how the ol blue truck was courtesy of the PO ... new carpet with the boots on top, because he did not have the rings.

I have since grabbed a spare set of chrome rings from the JY, now just need time to fix it.

And a shot of floor mat with boots under and ring on top and the ring lock tabs.

Shifter boot should be mounted down to floor and sealed fairly well. After all the main reason it is there is to keep noise, gasses/odors & the atmosphere (dust, moisture, heat, etc.) out of the cab. If you sandwich you carpet between it and the floor and drive in a lot of water or high moisture conditions your carpet will become wet. Just my 2 cents. Try driving a vehicle without a shift boot in place.

Hi,thanks for the list. I have checked about half of that list and haven't found one. I will keep digging. I saw one for $70 on Ebay 😆
I just finished insulation on the cab and carpet this week.
