laycock j type od questions

I bought my van with a laycock j type OD, which the previous owner claimed he installed in 1985. I got it workin by spending some time replacing switches and connectors...it works well but I'm reluctant to use it because I'm confused about how this thing is setup to be lubricated....

-I don't see a fill plug anywhere on the unit, and google pics of other units clearly show fill plugs on the body by the tailhousing.

-the only thing resembling a drain plug is a small allan on the bottom of the sump pan...I suppose the intentions of the designers were to drop the pan each time fluid is changed, but that seems silly.

-here's what baffles me the most:
There is a ~5/16-3/8 line running from the front of the case (where it meets trans) to the *fill plug* of the np205. If this is what is supposed to supply lubricant, I cant see it doing a very good job, and would think it should be plumbed to the drain plug for substantial supply and would require a return back to the t case. Another possibility is that the OD is sharing the vent of tbe t case, but that seems ridiculous to me also....transfer of fluid is bound to occur with such a setup.

I'm hoping someone that is familiar with these units can shed some light on whats going on with my setup. I've made attempts to contact gear vendor with poor results.....

Van is a 6.9idi turbo, 4x4, c6, np205, laycock j type

I've never heard of a Laycock J Type OD, but a quick Google search found this: J Type Overdrive Part I

I've already read through that, and it is very informative. believe me, anything youre finding on quick google search I've already been through. images, forums, write ups, etc.

that piece did not, nor did any other piece I've read, answer the questions above but I did learn a lot about the unit.

the laycock is essentially the predecessor to the modern gear vendor that is well known today. from what I understand, gear vendor bought all the rights to laycock and still service the units currently, and the units are same design with subtle differences to increase strength and functionality. and, before ya say call gear vendor, I've done that already. I've even emailed them the same questions with hopes it'd give them a better chance to respond specifically, no answers. figured I'd fish elsewhere rather than wait and rely on hope that they'd respond.
