Parking Brake Question

I am removing the parking brake on my '79 and need to know if I can remove the two parts in the pics below.

This...

And this bracket that comes off the shoe...

Why would you want to remove your parking brake in the first place?

My truck is strictly off-road only. I have no need for it and the cables will get caught up on stuff. Besides, it was never hooked up when it was on the road.
