ignition coil resistor

it gets very hot when the engine is running
is this normal?
what if it gets too hot?
I was searching why my truck suddenly dies
, Petrol pump, electricity, stops. no power

1947 mercury 1/2 ton

I was running my 1947 mercury 1/2 ton yesterday that I just picked up from the mechanic it stalled while operating and I have no idea why and have been unable to start it, any ideas?

my problem was solved when I moved the electrical connection to my electric fuel pump from the same circuit as the circuit braker
it tripped and then died truck
