I lived in Anchorage, Alaska when I deleted my ebpv and air intake heater. Never had any problems as long as I plugged it in at night. After a 10-12 hour shift I would just baby it until the engine warmed up a little. I just hated driving and the ebpv closing and feeling like it was sapping the power a little.

It gives you a convenient place to put a reducing bushing for a boost gauge fitting. And you probably have a better chance of getting hit by an ocean liner on a freeway in Nebraska than you do of having the thing actually ever activate. I thought about having it activate with the glow plugs, but in the end I just removed it and plugged the port.

http://www.dieselsite.com/airintakeheaterplug.aspx

The bottom of this page explains the AIH. RiffRaff also sells the plug, and i've read that a cummings oil drain plug also fits.

I never knew any of that. I guess I'll delete that also. And when you say cummins oil drain plug is it specific to which cummins engine? I just happen to have a junk 12 valve cummins oil pan laying around I can rob.

I got a plain steel plug at a hydraulics shop for a few bucks for mine. I don't remember for sure, but I want to say it's an M22 x 1.5 mm.

I've never worked on a cummings so i really don't know. But if you have it lying around it's easy to find out.

You know... The more I look at the pic on Dieselsite.com, the more their gasket looks like an oil plug gasket.

If you wanted a cheap permanent fix, epoxe works in that location too. It is unlikely that this part will ever be something that the majority of 7.3 owners will "have to have".

When I pulled my turbo to do the compressor housing, I also did the blank pedestal and high flow outlet. I was really happy with how it turned out.

Some people on other forums are claiming that if you plug the pedestal and don't go with a blank one it will starve the turbo from oil. That doesn't add up to me because all I'm doing is gutting the pedestal oil flows through it regardless..... Or am I missing something? I'm going to see if this cummins oil pan plug works here in a second.

If you plug the wrong port, you can cut off the oil to the turbo. The thread I linked in post 20 explains how the oil runs through the pedestal. If you follow that, you'll be fine.

The plugging of the wrong port and affecting oiling....I assume you are referring to the EBPV portion of this thread, not putting the plug in place of the AIH that is being talked about here too?
