*Temporarily* disable open door chime?

I tried moving a latch in the (driver) door to stop the chime from chiming when the driver door is open and the ignition is in the accessory position, but no luck. Anyone have a solution for temporarily disabling the chime through some mechanical means? (2010 Ranger)

If you like to fiddle with wiring, THIS is one way to do it. You need to add a relay and a "momentary" switch. It. should work on your '10. (I did this mod on my '98 and it works great).

Thanks very much for that.

My thinking is that there is most likely some latch (probably between the super cab mini door and main door) that when in an open state, triggers the chime, and that if I could just jamb something into the latch, I could silence the chime. I only spent 5 minutes trying, but came up short.

I figured it out. I previously only jammed the latch in the driver door that received the super cab door one click. I discovered that pushing it further creates a second click, which is what deactivates the chime. Then, just open the door handle to get whatever you jammed into the latch out.

On my '98 I don't have to jam anything in the door latch in order to get it to "click" twice, it can be moved to that position pretty easily. The problem for me was that, I occasionally would forget to "re-open" up the latch before trying to shut the door, and so the closed door latch would just clank hard against the striker rather than latch shut. After a couple of times of doing that (and hearing that awful "clank"), I decided to perform the mod that I linked to in my earlier post.

One sour note. It turns out that, while the door chime is silenced, the dome light stays on. Not good for my situation (being able to open the doors and have the speakers pointing out). I don't know what mechanism is causing the dome light to remain on.

You can pull the dome light fuse. That will de activate it with the doors, but the switchable map lights will still work.

I did that today, pulled fuse 12 under the passenger compartment, no more dome light or bed light (2014 F150), now I wish I could disable the running lights when the door opens as well...

I'm sure there's a fuse for that too.
