1966 Ford F-250 Crew Cab 4x4 What?
never seen one like this, exactly how rare is it? must be a one of a kind to have a 68 frame under a 66 body , and why wouldn't they just have used the original frame, anyone know if any of the crew cabs came with 4x4 or was it owner added later??
Ran when parked, Looks like a steal of deal... somebody buy it quick!

the rears are 4x4 or 2 wheel drive specific as well? they do look different. I learned something new today. thanks
Love your truck btw.

Yes, that is #2 (not to be confused with sh**, lol)
The 1966 (and older) F250 4x4 trucks were a 120" wheelbase. Not the 115" SWB or 129" LWB like the 2x4 or F100 4x4. So, instead of making a completely different bed for them they used the bed from the 1957-1960 (?) model trucks. Gives it more tire room and lines up with the axle placement. Often called a "wrong bed", but it is right for this application.
That picture above was from the Craigslist ad before I bought it. I've since changed out the wheels to 16" 8 lug innies and a bit more aggressive tire. I also removed the mud flaps (still shown in this picture) as they were mounted too far back to do much for my truck anyway. And changed out the mirror heads to a stock type rather than the upside down mounted Dodge mirrors (again not pictured here).

The crew cabs could come with 4x4 if you wanted it. ford, coach, crown and other conversion places would all make 4x4. Ford started making there crew cabs in house starting in 65 I think. If you wanted a crew cab before that it would be from a conversion company. I have a 66 f250 crew cab 4x4 from crown conversion company. This crew could have been a factory 4x4 or a 2wd. Depending what conversion company did the work on these crews the bed style and length could vary widely. The frame could of been swapped for many reasons these are 40+ years old previous owners had plenty of time to modify (personalize) them
