'95 Ford 272 Rear Popularity/Demand ??

Just wondering about the popularity or demand for a '95 F-150 Rear-End with 272 Gears. I've got one in very good condition and low miles to boot and no one seems interested in it. I would think that it would be a good choice for someone who frequently drives on hi-ways to get better fuel mileage with.

I have advertised it in the For Sale forum on here and locally as well, but it is still here, lol.

Maybe someone on here more familiar with these trucks than I am, could shed some light on it.

Also wondering what other year or model trucks it would fit ?

This is a complete Rear, Axle to Axle.

Popularity is going to be scarce with this ratio. You're correct in thinking that someone that was looking for maximum highway MPGs would be interested in it, problem is, most people are willing to sacrifice MPG for better performance.

As far as value, if someone offered you $100 for it, take it.

OK, thanks.

Appreciate the reply.

Still wouldn't mind knowing the interchange application though, if anyone out there would know.

Sorry it wasn't better news. I also just noticed you asked for interchange in your first post. I know for sure it will fit 87-96 F150s.

For a direct bolt in, '90-'96 F150's and Broncos. Pre-'90 8.8's use a pinion yoke instead of a flange like the '90+ axles. I found that out the hard way after buying a donor axle from an '89 F150.

I can't even get rid of a Sterling 10.25 with 3.55 gears for $100...I can only imagine trying to sell your axle...

Good luck!

I have an F-150 with this axle, 300 c.i. 6 cylinder, and 5 speed manual. It accelerates fine. I get about 15 mpg around town and 18 mpg highway. Not bad for a large pickup with big frontal area. I have gotten 20 mpg by keeping speed around 65 mph. The EPA mileage estimates are accurate. My window sticker is attached.

Then you are one of the FEW and you must not use your truck to haul much of anything

You're right. It's empty 99% of the time. But it really does get the mileage the window sicker says it should. My only complaint is the internal clutch slave cylinder. Big $ to have it replaced.

The problem with the 2.73 axle ratio is it completely destroys the vehicles usefulness as a truck.. the factory tow rating with a manual trans and that ratio is zero or next to it.. so what's the point. And as for getting better milage it will if you drive everywhere unloaded and it happens to be flat in every direction, but if you need to use the truck to actually do truck work and/or there are hills to climb where you live then it will actually make the truck harder on gas than say 3.55s.

I would take a shot at posting it here:

Cummins 4BT & Diesel Conversions Forums

Diesel swap guys are sometimes looking for tall gears.
