what gauge is the roof metal?

my cab has some pretty bad rust on the drivers side of the cab under the drip rail and a few pencil sized holes above it. the rest of the cab is decent so I want to repair it, cab swap is out of the question. what gauge sheetmetal is used for the roof? thanks guys.

I just measured the cab corners the other day and they were 20ga. Roof is probably the same.

Thanks guys. Less work to repair than swap a cab.

I think Ford actually used 19 gauge into the 70's. Of course that is the nominal gauge before being stretched and twisted into body panels. There is also a range of tolerances in sheet metal that could cause variations. Probably easiest to go with 20 ga so you can make up the minor difference with body filler, otherwise you could use 18 ga but you may have a high spot you have to grind down.

If you want perfect thickness cut a chunk out of another cab at a junk yard if they will let you. Depending on where you live a lot of junk yards won't sell whole cabs, even rust free ones, because they require them to go to the crusher to meet requirements by law for junking vehicles, so you don't have to feel bad if you cut one up.
