Ford Question

Okay I have one that I am stumped over. I have a 1999 Ford F350 with a 7.3 turbo. It has been stalling on me from time to time while driving. The only way I get it to start up again is to add oil to it. Then it starts right away. It does not look like the oil is low but I still add one quart and it goes again. Why is this?

The 7.3 uses high pressure oil to fire it's injectors. If you oil level is too low the injectors won't fire and the truck won't run. Your oil is going somewhere, just a guess but check your fuel filter for signs of oil then replace the injector orings if you find any.

If the stalling is indeed from low oil you are WAY low. Its not impossible. Heck it's not even uncommon. It's happened to me even. Sounds like that could be the problem.

He is right, the engine creates high pressure oil to fire the injectors. If that flow stops, so do the injectors. However this can be for several reasons, including a weak pump, or bad valve.

If you're wanting to diagnose it, get a high end scan tool, or an android or iOS device and hook up the appropriate OBDII adapter. Check ICP, IPR, etc.

Thanks for the info. I think my issue is directly related to oil pressure and the injector system. I have been doing some research and what you say is spot on with what I read so thanks a bunch.
