Steering column questions

I installed a 71 F100 power steering sector, pump assembly, and automatic steering column on my 66 F100. I'm not happy with the steering column. What are my other options? I need more room behind the wheel. How difficult would it be to change to a 78-79 model steering column?

Welcome to FTE

No F150's until 1975.

1965/77 F100/350: NSS located on steering column.

1971/77 F100/350: Steering wheel is 16 1/2" O.D.

1978/79 F100/350: Steering wheel with P/S is 15" O.D.

1978/79 F100/350's were available with an optional tilt steering wheel, not available with M/S or 3 M/T.

One problem is: 1978/79 F100/350: NSS located on transmission.

First and foremost; Welcome to FTE!! Assuming interested in the 78-79 column is the tilt steering feature; if not, some thing may want to consider?? Posting a link to 'the other' Ford truck forum with article on subject may find helpful?? Understand swapping to later model columns will not be an issue, recall member mentioning swapping the original column bracket with the replacement by removing the tack welds thus eliminate the need for spacers?? Suggest use caution and do some research, not sure how the column parts are interchangeable between 65 thru 72, and the later models. Perhaps more knowledgeable member can advise?

If locating becomes a problem there's also the option of going w/ an aftermarket column, although abit pricey members who installed them seem to give them favorable reviews. Believe Summit has their own brand that may be little less expensive??

Again, welcome and looking forward to your input.
