need tuner help

Well I just picked up a 2002 f350 7.3 the truck has an aftermarket air intake, 4" turbo back straight pipe gauges and I am not sure and my ? Is about a tuner. I was told that if the truck had a tuner and the guy took it out and I was to put a new one in I can screw the truck up. I got the truck from a dealer so I cant ask the owner. But there is a spot on the dash where it looks like there could have been a 6 position switch at one time and the computer is not properly secured. So my ? Is can I put a tuner on the truck looking at the ts 6 position tuner

As long as there are no underlying issues that already need attention...

There is no reason why you cant put a tuner on it.

Pushing an unhealthy engine with a hot toon WILL win you a search for a new engine...
Not many races tho...

^^What he said^^^

Also, here is some good reading on chipping your truck and why it's important to make sure your truck is healthy before taking the plunge.

Thanks for the help the truck is healthy I just installed torque app and bluetooth adaptor it is saying that the truck did 0-60 in 10sec and has 625 hp and did not fully get on it. So now I am wondering could it still be programed from a past tuner or could the exhaust and cold air intake produce that much hp

A cold air intake and 4" exhaust won't get you even in the same country as 625 hp. Neither will any tuner without a whole bunch of other supporting upgrades.

My guess is your app has it wrong. The 7.3 is not an OBDII compliant engine, so some readings don't work right when you plug them into the OBDII port.

I think i get what you're asking. If it had superchips on it and then removed, then you try to put another tuner on it, such as bully dog.

If it was in fact returned to stock, you will have no issues. If it wasn't, it's hit or miss. Years ago people would stack tuners and sometimes it would produce incredible power, other times it would cause issues. It was a trial and error. Custom tuning is the way to go now.

If in doubt, take to the dealership and get the PCM flashed.

That's the one thing I hate about buying these kind of trucks from a dealer. A friend that I RV with bought a Dodge diesel to haul his RV with . You could see that the PO had made some changes to the truck and had used it to tow with. We wanted to find out what had been done to truck but could not get any info about the PO to ask. It was like he was in witness protection or something. We asked the dealer to ask him but to no avail . Just my rant now back to the show!!!

Did you get it from a dealership, or like whole sale lot? If you got it from a dealership you might be able to get them to flash the PCM for you. If it was a whole sale lot.... good luck.

I got it from a whole sale lot but I did just find in the owners manual folder an old insurance card so I am going to have to do some research on the old owner and give him a call

I was looking to get a PCM flashed back to stock and went to our local dealer and they wouldn't do it. Said they don't work on the older trucks. And that's with a little pull around here. Told me I should bring it to one of two mechanics. I wanted the vin specific tune back on it and wasn't sure if they could deliver so I just left it.

A Ford dealer wouldn't do it? That doesn't sound right.
